Job summary

Avvoka is building reliability and scale for a fast‑growing legal tech platform. In Manila, you’ll help stand up and shape our new engineering function from the ground up, owning infrastructure from cloud to on‑prem and building automation that ships quickly without compromising stability.

Qualifications

• Bash, fluently. You write real scripts confidently: loops, conditionals, error handling, pipes, text processing.
• Git, thoroughly. Branching, merging, rebasing, resolving conflicts, and recovering from mistakes should be second nature, not something you look up.
• Programming ability. You can build your own tooling or microservice, ideally in Bash, Ruby, alternatively in Python, Go or C#.
• Deep understanding of CI/CD, especially CI pipelines. Not just using an existing pipeline, but understanding how stages, jobs, runners, artifacts, and caching work, and being able to design and debug
• One From Scratch. GitLab CI Experience Strongly Preferred.
• KVM/QEMU. Hands‑on experience running and troubleshooting virtual machines. This is essential, as it’s the core of our platform.
• Strong Linux (Ubuntu) administration and solid networking fundamentals.
• Sharp problem-solving and logical thinking. When something breaks, you reason your way to the cause methodically instead of guessing. You understand why things work, not just which commands to run.
• You’re a builder, not just a user. We’re not looking for someone who only knows how to write deployment YAML files. We want someone who understands the underlying principles and can build the tooling themselves.

Responsibilities

• Design, provision, and maintain infrastructure across Linux, KVM/QEMU virtualization, and cloud environments using infrastructure-as-code and image-building tooling.
• Build and own CI/CD pipelines in GitLab that make deployments fast, repeatable, and safe.
• Write automation in Bash and a second language (Ruby,Python,Go or C#) to eliminate manual toil and recurring operational work.
• Keep Avvoka's platform highly available and performant, tuning networking, capacity, and resilience as demand grows. We run primarily on our own private cloud (KVM/QEMU), and also use Azure and occasionally AWS.
• Manage virtualization and provisioning with Ansible and Packer to deliver consistent, reproducible environments.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues, then design out the root causes so they don’t recur. A key part of this role is maintaining and troubleshooting the platform during hours outside European business time, providing coverage while the rest of the team is offline.
• Help establish reliability practices, runbooks, and standards for Avvoka's growing Manila engineering team.
• Partner with developers to make reliability and observability a first-class part of how we build.

The role

You’ll own the reliability, performance, and scalability of the infrastructure that sophisticated legal teams around the world depend on every day. From cloud to on-prem, you’ll build the automation, pipelines, and tooling that let Avvoka ship quickly without ever compromising stability.

This is a hands‑on, high‑trust role at the heart of a fast‑growing platform - and a chance to help stand up and shape Avvoka's new Manila engineering function from the ground up. In twelve months, you’ll be able to point to systems you automated, incidents you designed out of existence, and infrastructure you helped scale to meet real global demand.

What You’ll Do
