Position Overview
A leading global insurance organization is seeking an experienced Data and Reporting Engineer to join our Data, Analytics & AI team. In this role, you will be responsible for ingesting, transforming, and structuring data across diverse sources, ensuring high data quality, and building intuitive reports and dashboards for key organizational stakeholders.
Serving as a crucial link between raw data assets and business decision-makers, you will drive reporting consolidation, lead automation initiatives, and design scalable project-based analytics solutions. This role involves direct collaboration with onshore business partners to deliver complex reporting solutions aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Extraction, Transformation & Ingestion: Extract data from disparate systems (databases, APIs, flat files) and construct, optimize, and maintain robust ETL pipelines to ensure accurate and reliable data processing.
- Data Warehousing & Architecture: Contribute to the design and ongoing maintenance of data lakes and enterprise data warehouses. Apply efficient data modeling and schema designs to optimize data retrieval and support big data environments.
- Database Management & Security: Administer and tune databases for optimal speed, efficiency, and scalability. Implement strict access controls and adhere to data security protocols.
- Reporting & Data Visualization: Develop interactive, user-friendly dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI and Tableau. Partner with business analysts and decision-makers to translate operational needs into technical reporting specifications.
- Data Quality, Governance & Audit: Establish data validation checks, enforce data governance practices, and perform root-cause analysis on stakeholder data inquiries. Audit team-generated reports to ensure compliance with Desktop Procedures (DTP).
- Automation & Systems Scalability: Design automated workflows for data processing and business reporting to increase operational efficiency and scale infrastructure to support expanding data volumes.
- Performance Optimization & Monitoring: Continuously monitor system performance, troubleshoot operational issues, fine-tune queries, and configure automated alerts for system failures or anomalies.
- Documentation & Technical Excellence: Maintain thorough technical documentation for pipelines, data models, and reporting workflows. Stay current with industry advancements in data engineering, analytics tools, and SQL practices.
- Project Delivery & Stakeholder Collaboration: Lead onshore reporting requirements for designated business units using Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, Lean). Act as a main point of contact for project delivery and foster knowledge sharing across functional teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience working with SAS (Base / Enterprise Guide), SQL, Excel, Tableau, and Power BI.
- At least 1 year of experience within the financial services sector (insurance domain experience is highly preferred).
- Proven track record of leading successful automation initiatives that yielded measurable operational benefits.
- Prior experience working within a global shared services center, global capability center, or management consulting environment is preferred.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Quantitative Studies, or an equivalent combination of education and direct industry experience.
Technical Skills & Domain Knowledge
- Data & Analytics Capabilities: Advanced proficiency in SQL, data modeling, and database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
- ETL & Data Pipelines: Hands-on experience with data integration and pipeline tools such as SAS, Apache NiFi, Apache Spark, or Talend.
- Cloud & Warehousing Solutions: Solid understanding of modern data warehousing principles and cloud platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
- Visualization & BI: Advanced skills in building reports and executive dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, or QlikView.
- Programming Languages: Proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala for automated data manipulation and processing.
- Industry & Domain Expertise: Familiarity with insurance domain concepts, portfolio analytics, risk management, and insurance claims processes.
- Agile & Governance Standards: Practical knowledge of Agile delivery frameworks alongside strong data security and governance principles.
