Credentialing Assistant – Independent Contractor

About the Role
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Credentialing Assistant to support our credentialing operations. This role will work closely with our credentialing team to help keep provider applications, payer enrollments, renewals, licenses, and credentialing records organized and moving forward. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys tracking details, following up on pending items, maintaining accurate records, and making sure deadlines do not fall through the cracks.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining and updating credentialing trackers for providers, payers, licenses, renewals, and applications
- Preparing and submitting provider enrollment and credentialing applications to insurance payers
- Tracking the status of submitted applications and following up with insurance companies and credentialing organizations
- Monitoring expiration and renewal dates for licenses, certifications, malpractice insurance, DEA registrations, and other provider credentials
- Requesting updated documents and information from providers when needed
- Maintaining accurate provider credentialing files and documentation
- Assisting with CAQH profile updates, attestations, and document maintenance
- Assisting with Medicare/PECOS and commercial payer enrollment activities
- Tracking payer requests for additional information and helping ensure responses are submitted timely
- Following up on pending applications, missing documentation, and outstanding credentialing items
- Documenting application status, reference numbers, effective dates, and payer communications
- Helping maintain provider rosters and payer participation information
- Supporting recredentialing and renewal processes
- Identifying upcoming deadlines or credentialing issues and escalating them to the appropriate team member
- Assisting with other credentialing and administrative projects as needed
What We're Looking For
- Extremely organized and detail-oriented
- Comfortable managing multiple providers, applications, and deadlines at the same time
- Strong with spreadsheets, trackers, and documentation
- Able to follow established processes while identifying items that need follow-up
- Persistent and comfortable contacting insurance companies for application status updates
- Able to communicate professionally with providers, payer representatives, and internal team members
- Self-directed and dependable in a remote work environment
- Comfortable handling confidential healthcare and provider information
Preferred Experience
- Previous healthcare credentialing, provider enrollment, or medical administrative experience preferred
- Familiarity with **CAQH, PECOS, NPPES, Medicare enrollment, and commercial insurance credentialing** is a plus
- Experience working with physician, NP, PA, or other healthcare provider credentialing preferred
- Experience with Google Sheets, Excel, or similar tracking systems
- Knowledge of credentialing terminology, payer enrollment processes, and provider licensing is a plus
