Shell’s Downstream & Renewables Controllers organization, a global team of finance professionals, is seeking a Controller, Local Reporting based in Manila. What’s The Role

Shell’s Downstream & Renewables Controllers organization, a global team of over 300 finance professionals based in Chennai, Krakow, Kuala Lumpur, and Manila. The team is responsible for both country and business controllership across a diverse portfolio of entities. As a Controller, Local Reporting, you will lead regulatory and statutory compliance activities across the Americas and Asia, ensuring adherence to US and local reporting requirements. You will collaborate with senior business and finance stakeholders, engage with external auditors and regulators, and play a key role in maintaining a strong compliance and governance framework. What You’ll Be Doing

The Controller, Local Reporting is responsible for leading statutory and regulatory reporting, compliance, and financial governance across a portfolio of entities in the Americas and Asia. This role manages a team of Local Statutory Reporting (LSR) and US/Local GAAP specialists, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement.

  • Lead US external reporting activities, ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory, tax, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Oversee Local Statutory Reporting for Shell USA and Shell Petroleum Inc. (SPI), while providing governance and oversight across in-scope entities in the Americas and Asia.
  • Monitor regulatory developments, assess impacts, and drive timely implementation of reporting requirements.
  • Lead climate and sustainability reporting initiatives in line with emerging local regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver high-quality financial accounting and reporting in accordance with US GAAP and Local GAAP standards.
  • Partner with internal and external auditors to ensure audit readiness, timely issue resolution, and sustainable remediation of findings.
  • Provide insightful analysis on financial results, key risks, and accounting judgments to support business decision-making.
  • Drive proactive risk identification and mitigation across statutory reporting and compliance activities.
  • Ensure strong governance, internal controls, and compliance with SOX and other regulatory frameworks.

Scope & Impact
  • Lead a team of 5-10 direct reports and provide Local Reporting and GAAP expertise across Shell's finance organization.
  • Support a large regional portfolio covering the Americas and Asia.
  • Oversee reporting and compliance activities for numerous high-value, SOX-scoped entities with significant business impact.
What You Bring
  • Technical Accounting Expertise- Professional accounting qualification with strong knowledge of accounting standards, statutory and regulatory reporting, and financial statement preparation. Experience in US GAAP and external audit is an advantage.
  • Executive Communication-Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with CFOs, executive leadership teams, boards, and audit committees.
  • Commercial Acumen & Analytical Thinking- Ability to navigate complex business, treasury, tax, pension, and cross-functional matters, providing insights and practical solutions. Knowledge of Shell's business environment is preferred.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge- Solid understanding of regulatory reporting requirements, ensuring accurate, timely, and audit-ready submissions.
  • Stakeholder Management & Influence- Ability to build credibility and influence senior leaders, auditors, regulators, and cross-functional stakeholders, even without direct authority.
  • Leadership & Transformation- Demonstrated success in leading across organizational boundaries, driving transformation, fostering high performance, and developing diverse and inclusive teams while taking ownership of outcomes.
