Overview
Performs a variety of tasks involving physical labor at construction sites. May operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May assist other craft workers.
Responsibilities
- Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
- Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities.
- Load and unload building materials and move materials to work areas.
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding, bracing, and other temporary structures.
- Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact earth to prepare for construction.
- Use equipment to break old forms and structures.
- Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators, and tampers as directed.
- Assist other craft workers (e.g., carpenters, bricklayers, and plumbers) as needed.
- Follow all safety regulations and wear appropriate safety equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in construction or other related fields preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
Working Conditions
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- May be exposed to loud noises, dust, and fumes.
- May be required to work at heights or in confined spaces.
