Position Summary
The Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Supervisor at AVM Engineering is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of field technicians and laboratory staff. This role ensures that all testing of soils, concrete, asphalt, and masonry is performed in strict accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and project-specific standards. The Supervisor bridges the gap between technical execution and project management, ensuring data integrity and site safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and schedule a team of field and laboratory technicians to meet project deadlines.
- Quality Assurance: Review and certify testing reports (density tests, concrete cylinders, etc.) for accuracy and compliance before submission to engineers.
- On-Site Coordination: Act as the primary point of contact for contractors and site superintendents regarding testing results and scheduling.
- Equipment Management: Oversee the calibration, maintenance, and repair of nuclear density gauges, compression machines, and other specialized apparatus.
- Training & Safety: Conduct safety briefings and technical training sessions to ensure all staff maintain relevant certifications (e.g., ACI, NICET).
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve technical discrepancies in testing data or material failures on-site.
Job Specification (Requirements)
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years in construction materials testing, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
Knowledge & Skills
- Standards Proficiency: Expert knowledge of ASTM D3740 and ASTM E329 requirements.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret blueprints, technical specifications, and complex geotechnical reports.
- Communication: Strong technical writing skills for report preparation and professional verbal communication for client interaction.
