Key roles and responsibilities
  • Engineering review: Analyze and approve detailed engineering designs, specifications, and drawings for compliance with national codes, utility standards, and contractual requirements.
  • Regulatory coordination: Liaise with regulatory bodies, utility companies, and government agencies to manage permitting and ensure compliance with all relevant electrical codes (e.g., NESC, IEEE).
  • Budgeting and scheduling: Develop and control budgets, track costs, and create detailed project schedules using software like Primavera P6 or MS Project. This includes managing complex tasks such as material procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Risk management:Identify potential risks, including those related to high‑voltage work, weather, terrain, and supply chain issues, and implement mitigation plans.
On‑site management
  • HV equipment installation: Supervise and oversee the installation of complex, high‑voltage equipment such as transformers, switchgear, protection and control systems, and grounding systems.
  • Transmission line construction: Direct the construction of transmission towers, foundations, and the stringing of conductors across challenging terrain, managing rights‑of‑way and minimizing environmental impact.
  • QA/QC inspections: Lead quality assurance and control efforts, performing inspections and testing during construction and commissioning to ensure adherence to quality standards and design specifications.
  • Safety enforcement: Enforce stringent health and safety protocols specific to working around high‑voltage equipment and at heights. This includes managing Lock Out Tag Out procedures and spill prevention plans.
Team and stakeholder management
  • Contractor supervision: Oversee all subcontractors and internal crews, ensuring their work aligns with project plans, quality standards, and safety regulations.
  • Stakeholder communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for utility clients, engineers, equipment suppliers, and local authorities, providing regular status updates and resolving issues.
