Overview
The Legal Officer plays a pivotal role in ensuring legal compliance and providing legal support across all aspects of the organization's operations. Reporting to the Senior Vice President or CEO & President, the Legal Officer conducts legal research, drafts legal documents, ensures compliance with laws and regulations, and assists in resolving legal issues. This role requires a meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of relevant laws and regulations, and excellent communication skills to interact with internal stakeholders and external entities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research on various issues affecting the organization.
- Draft and review legal documents, including contracts, agreements, policies, and correspondence.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Provide legal advice and guidance to internal departments on legal matters.
- Assist in managing litigation matters, including coordinating with external legal counsel.
- Review and analyze legal documents and agreements to identify potential risks.
- Assist in developing and delivering legal training programs for staff members.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of legal documents and correspondence.
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations that may impact the organization.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Legal Manager or General Counsel.
Qualifications
- Preferably graduate of Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB).
- Experience in legal practice either in-house or law firm.
- Experience in negotiating and drafting contracts and other legal documents.
- Knowledge of compliance standards and regulations relevant to the Organization’s industry.
- Strong ethical standards, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering to professional conduct and legal ethics.
- Proficient in conducting legal research, identifying and evaluating potential legal risks and providing sound advice.
- Strong understanding and knowledge in laws, regulations and legal principles relevant to the organization’s industry or sector.
- Strong knowledge of contract law, corporate law, employment law, and other relevant legal areas.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.
