Job summary

Batangas Healthcare Specialist Medical Center is seeking a licensed pharmacist to join its hospital pharmacy team in Batangas City. The role includes dispensing medications, ensuring drug safety, inventory management, policy development, and staff training.

Responsibilities

  • Performs hospital pharmacy functions aligned with BHSMC mission and core values.
  • Prepares medications by reviewing physician orders and detecting incompatibilities.
  • Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies and advising interventions.
  • Organizes and directs technicians' workflow; verifies preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifies orders, charges, and inspections.
  • Maintains accurate records of prescriptions dispensed.
  • Monitors new drugs and local trends to determine pharmaceutical needs for programs.
  • Develops and implements pharmacy policies and procedures; orients staff to these policies.
  • Develops staff knowledge through clinical programs and training of pharmacy staff and students.
  • Ensures compliance with drug laws; monitors inspections and maintains controlled substances records.
  • Assesses inventory needs; develops bid lists and recommends suppliers; maintains inventory levels.
  • Oversees and coordinates computerized billing for pharmacy services.
  • Maintains current registration; stays informed on legislation; advises management on actions.
  • Protects patients by adhering to infection-control protocols.
  • Serves as internal consultant on pharmaceutical issues.
  • Develops and manages the pharmacy program budget.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment per rules and regulations.
  • Maintains pharmacological knowledge via workshops, publications, and professional networks.
  • Contributes to team effort and results.
  • Selects, trains, schedules and evaluates staff.
  • Submits periodic reports with analysis and recommendations to superiors.
  • Participates in committees and project teams for policy and system improvements.
  • Supervises activities of staff and provides coaching and development.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • 1. Performs job functions consistent with the Hospital's mission and vision statements and witnesses the BHSMC core values in the discharge of his functions.
  • 2. Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders; detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
  • 3. Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • 4. Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions.
  • 5. Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians' work flow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.
  • 6. Maintains accurate records of prescriptions dispensed.
  • 7. Monitors new drugs available on the market and local medical trends to determine pharmaceutical needs for new or continuing programs.
  • 8. Develops and recommends policies, procedures, rules and protocols for pharmacy services and implements as approved. Orients pharmacy, medical and other staff to such pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • 9. Develops hospital staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs; training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and health care professionals.
  • 10. Complies with drug laws as regulated by the board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration by monitoring nursing unit inspections; maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory.
  • 11. Assesses inventory needs, develops bid list and recommends manufacturers/suppliers to implement a cost effective pharmaceutical program. Maintains adequate inventory levels.
  • 12. Oversees and coordinates computerized billing for pharmacy services.
  • 13. Maintains current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions.
  • 14. Protects patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols.
  • 15. Serves as an internal consultant to staff on pharmaceutical issues.
  • 16. Develops and manages the program budget.
  • 17. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • 18. Maintains pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • 19. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • 20. Selects, trains, schedules and evaluates professional and support staff
  • 21. Submits to superior officer periodic reports on the operations and activities of the work unit with corresponding analysis and recommendations.
  • 22. Participates in collegial planning for policies, procedures and systems, problem solving, decision making and performance monitoring through participation in standing and ad hoc committees, task forces, and project teams.
  • 23. Supervises and controls planned and intervening activities of subordinate officers and employees concerning the performance of their job functions and completion of task assignments in accordance with prescribed standards, in the process providing motivational approaches, training and development, coaching, and counseling.
  • 24. Performs such other duties and responsibilities analogous, germane, or related to and/or implied from the above enumeration of duties and responsibilities.
