A cashier is responsible for operating a point-of-sale (POS) system to process customer transactions, accurately handle payments (cash, credit, debit), and provide excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
- Operate POS Systems: Use cash registers or POS systems to scan items and process sales, returns, and exchanges.
- Handle Payments: Accept cash, credit cards, debit cards, and gift cards, calculate totals, and provide correct change and receipts.
- Provide Customer Service: Greet customers, answer questions about products or promotions, assist with locating items, and resolve complaints to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Manage Cash: Count cash in the register, ensure adequate change, and reconcile daily transactions with sales data.
- Maintain Checkout Area: Keep the checkout station clean, organized, and well-stocked.
- Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date on product codes, company return policies, and current promotions for accurate pricing.
