Job description

A cadet engineer in a rolling mill's production and mechanical department assists with both mechanical maintenance and production support. Responsibilities includehelping with equipment repair and calibration, monitoring production processes, assisting in design and improvement projects, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Production duties

• Assist in overseeing the continuous and efficient operation of production lines and equipment.
• Help maintain and monitor production process parameters and ensure established procedures and documentation are followed.
• Help prepare production schedules and contribute to resource planning.
• Conduct line work and participate in improvement projects across production and quality assurance.

Mechanical duties

• Assist in the scheduled maintenance of mechanical machinery, respond to equipment faults, and help with repairs.
• Conduct periodic inspections and assist in calibrating instruments to ensure accuracy.
• Help diagnose breakdown problems and ensure the correct parts are fitted.
• Provide technical support during the installation of new machinery or system upgrades.
• Assist in identifying mechanical deficiencies and developing improvements. This may involve using CAD software to create or update drawings.
• Participate in machine inspections and surveys to gather data for analysis.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of engineering activities and project progress.

General and safety duties

• Help maintain health, environment, and safety policies and procedures. Assist in implementing good housekeeping programs to ensure compliance with standards like 5S.
• Work with other team members and departments to ensure timely completion of tasks.
• Report key learning, analysis, observations, and recommendations to senior leadership.
• Participate in training programs to prepare for increased responsibility upon completion of the cadetship.
