Qualifications
- Accounting or related degree with a major in Accounting or Taxation (mandatory)
- CA or CPA qualification, or progress toward completion (mandatory)
- Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification, or progress toward completion, is highly regarded
- Completion of CPD hours required by the relevant professional body, where applicable
- Maintenance of required professional memberships and registrations
Skills and Experience
- At least 7 years of experience in Australian tax compliance or advisory, ideally in professional services
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail
- Advanced proficiency in tax preparation, lodgement, and workflow software used in Australian professional services
- Technological proficiency and a continuous improvement mindset
- Experience working within an offshore or outsourced delivery model, such as Cloudstaff, Emapta, or a similar provider, is highly regarded

Leadership Technical Skills and Experience
- Advanced knowledge of Australian income tax, GST/BAS, FBT, Division 7A, trusts, small business tax concessions, and related obligations, sufficient to review and sign off on complex returns within delegated authority
- Demonstrated ability to lead tax compliance workflows and quality assurance across a blended onshore and offshore team
- Experience managing lodgement programs and ATO deadlines across multiple offices or virtual teams
- Capability to lead technical upskilling and knowledge transfer across geographically dispersed tax staff
- Familiarity with the governance frameworks supporting offshore or outsourced delivery models

Responsibilities
Tax Compliance Workflow and Delivery
- Manage and coordinate the preparation of income tax returns, activity statements (BAS/IAS), FBT returns, and other Australian tax compliance obligations across a portfolio of offices.
- Allocate work across onshore and offshore staff based on capacity, skill level, and lodgement deadlines.
- Monitor progress against the ATO lodgement program and firm deadlines, identify bottlenecks, and promptly elevate risks to the onshore Manager and VOps Pool Lead.
- Ensure work is accurate and delivered on time, in line with expectations communicated by the onshore team.
- Support improvements to tax workpapers, templates, and workflow tools used across the blended team.
Technical Tax Review and Quality Assurance
- Review income tax returns, tax reconciliations, and related workpapers prepared by onshore and offshore staff for technical accuracy and compliance with Australian tax law.
- Resolve issues involving Division 7A, trust distributions, CGT events, small business concessions, and GST/BAS; escalated complex or novel positions to the onshore Manager and VOps Pool Lead.
- Maintain review checklists and quality frameworks in line with onshore-set standards and Findex risk and compliance policies.
- Identify recurring technical errors or knowledge gaps and recommend targeted training.
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead, coach, and develop onshore and offshore Accountants and Senior Accountants.
- Support onboarding and training in Australian tax law and Findex systems.
- Provide day-to-day performance feedback and monitor development goals for staff under your management.
- Coordinate formal performance ratings and disciplinary matters for offshore staff with the onshore Manager, VOps Pool Lead, and offshore provider's HR team; follow Findex HR processes for onshore staff.
- Promote a collaborative team culture and support staff engagement and retention.
Stakeholder Communication (Internal Only)
- Act as a key point of contact between the tax delivery team and the onshore Manager and VOps Pool Lead.
- Provide regular updates on preparation progress, technical risks, and workflow issues for onward communication to the relevant offices.
- Support tax compliance processing through the onshore Manager or VOps Pool Lead; this is not a client-facing role.
- Contribute to internal process, tax technology, and system initiatives as directed by the onshore team.
Technical Tax Knowledge and Currency
- Maintain current knowledge of Australian income tax, GST, FBT, and superannuation legislation, rulings, and ATO guidance relevant to the client base.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and communicate their implications to onshore and offshore tax staff.
- Support the resolution of technical tax issues escalated by team members.
- Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing sessions and precedent documents under the direction of the onshore Manager and VOps Pool Lead.
