You will review client files, interact with front office, and escalate issues to Global AML management as needed, contributing to training and process improvements within a collaborative team.

Role Summary

Responsible for the initial investigation of potential unusual activity involving Northern Trust accounts/clients that have alerted in Northern Trust's global automated transaction monitoring system. This role is specific to anti-money laundering (AML) investigations at the alert level (level one) as part of Northern Trust's Global AML Compliance function. Uses specific knowledge of a discipline to achieve goals through own work. Has specific knowledge or expertise typically gained through formal education or equivalent experience. Uses expertise to provide guidance to others as a project manager or consultant. Requires working knowledge and experience in own job discipline. Continues to build knowledge of the company, processes and clients. Performs a range of assignments related to job discipline. Uses prescribed guidelines or policies in analyzing situations. Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction. The Associate Consultant supports the Manager in ensuring operational efficiency. Carries out complex activities with regulatory compliance impact. Able to serve as a key subject matter expert and mentor to other more junior level employees. Manages daily operational activities and supervise day-to-day work of junior level employees (but not a formal management role).

Major Duties

• Supports the team manager in ensuring operational efficiency
• Provides day-to-day support and guidance to more junior team members, support the Manager with respect to workflow distribution and ensuring the effective the use of staff resources
• Identify, document and disseminate new procedures and controls
• Carry out complex activities with regulatory compliance impact
• May have direct interaction with committees and/or Senior Management
• Able to serve as a key subject matter expert and mentor to other more junior level employees
• May manage daily operational activities and supervise day-to-day work of junior level employees (but not a formal management role)
• Technically sound in area of AML Compliance expertise and has broader knowledge of other areas
• Delivers a work product that requires less revision
• Reviews client files for conformance with applicable AML policies, procedures and regulatory requirements and works with front office teams to facilitate queries.
• Provides support and functional knowledge as it relates to compliance with applicable AML laws, rules and standards.
• Identifies and escalates to Global AML management any regulatory compliance risks associated with the file reviews completed.
• Performs continuous monitoring of customers transaction including investigating Adverse Media and Politically Exposed Person alerts
• Participates in all applicable training.
• Provide input to process changes which would result in greater operational efficiency
• Direct liaison with both first line of defense (RMs) and auditors
