The National University of Singapore invites applications for Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) for in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The Department of Microbiology and Immunology has distinguished itself in biomedical research and has a broad spectrum of expertise. Research in the Department encompasses very diverse questions and uses a wide variety of approaches, experimental systems, and techniques. Principal Investigators of the Department are internationally recognized for research on immunology, medical virology, bacteriology, parasitology, molecular biology and biotechnology. Purpose of the post Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) will work closely with the Principal Investigator to develop and lead a research program in Immunology, with a focus on translational research that bridges fundamental discoveries and clinical applications.

Main duties and responsibilities The Assistant Professor will be able to:

  1. Establish an independent, externally funded research program in immunology with an emphasis on translational approaches.
  2. Conduct cutting-edge research that contributes to ITRP’s goals, including vaccine development, antimicrobial resistance, pathogen-host interactions, anti-tumor immunity, immune ageing, and public health interventions.
  3. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including clinicians, scientists, and other stakeholders to drive impactful research.
  4. Mentor and supervise undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers.
  5. Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in areas related to microbiology or immunology, anchored under the Department of Microbiology & Immunology.
  6. Publish high-quality, peer-reviewed research in leading journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
  7. Actively participate in ITRP’s events, workshops, and outreach activities.

Qualifications The applicant should possess the following:

Essential

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent, with at least three years of postdoctoral experience in microbiology, immunology, epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of research excellence as evidenced by first author original high impact publications.
  • Strong potential to secure competitive external funding.
  • Expertise in translational research methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Desirable

  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the graduate level.
  • Experience in mentoring and supervising research trainees.
  • Research experience in neutrophil biology, microbial infection, and sepsis.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and ethical requirements for translational research.

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
