Job summary

Manulife Financial is seeking an Assistant Manager to lead a multi-site team, ensure high-quality service, and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements. The role focuses on organizational effectiveness through strong leadership of core business functions and resource alignment.

You will oversee performance plans, coach staff, monitor key metrics, and communicate priorities to deliver short-term objectives while fostering an inclusive, flexible work environment within a global team.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years’ experience in a large business with 2+ years in operations or project management
  • 3–5 years insurance or financial services industry experience
  • College degree or equivalent work experience

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate needed resources, monitor progress, and communicate priorities to achieve short-term objectives.
  • Create timely, high-quality information flows and convey information clearly.
  • Set clear performance expectations and develop plans; address difficult issues when needed.
  • Provide monthly staff feedback on service and productivity; delegate and empower.
  • Assess staff strengths, allocate development resources, and maintain active development plans.

Job description

The Assistant Manager is accountable to manage, develop and motivate a multi-site team to ensure the delivery of high-quality service while understanding the appropriate compliance framework and service levels. This position's primary responsibility is ensuring organizational effectiveness by providing leadership for the organization's core functions.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Allow for and contribute needed resources; coordinate work efforts as necessary; monitor progress; provide clear direction and communicate priorities; focus on key metrics and the achievement of short-term objectives
  • Create an atmosphere in which timely and high-quality information is available; convey information clearly and effectively
  • Set clear performance expectations; prepare effective performance plans and reward people for g good performance; step forward to address difficult issues.
  • Provide staff with monthly performance feedback on service, quality and productivity. Must also know how to delegate and empower staff.
  • Assess strengths and development needs of staff; allocate time and resources for development; provide coaching to cultivate personal accountability and ownership; ensure that each staff member has an active development plan
Required Qualifications
  • 3 - 5+ years’ experience in a large business with 2+ years of experience in managing operations and/or project management or 3-5 years Insurance or financial services industry experience
  • College degree or equivalent work experience required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to identify root causes of issues and take appropriate actions to resolve complex problems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of insurance operations and systems, including tax reporting and regulatory requirements
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align internal resources to meet project deadlines
  • Solid understanding of process governance and exception handling, including the review and approval of request exceptions
