Job summary

Makro Philippines is seeking an Assistant Manager - Buyer to support category management and sourcing execution across the Dry Food division. You will work closely with the Category Manager to implement buying plans, manage supplier relationships, and influence assortment and pricing decisions for an expanding wholesale footprint in the Philippines.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3–4 years in category management, buying, or merchandising, preferably in retail,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain, or related field.
• 3–4 years of experience in category management, buying, or merchandising.
• Exposure to supplier negotiation or vendor management is a plus.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and stakeholder coordination skills.
• Experience in Dry Food categories is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Support development and execution of category strategy, assortment planning, and pricing.
• Assist in supplier sourcing, negotiation, and relationship management.
• Monitor trading agreements, promotions, and margin performance.
• Analyze sales data and market trends for growth opportunities.

This role works closely with the Category Manager to execute buying plans, manage supplier relationships, and help shape assortment and pricing decisions as we grow our wholesale footprint in the Philippines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the development and execution of category strategy, assortment planning, and pricing for assigned product categories
• Assist in supplier sourcing, negotiation, and relationship management to help secure favorable commercial terms
• Monitor trading agreements, promotions, and margin performance, flagging risks and opportunities to the Category Manager
• Analyze sales data and market trends to support category growth opportunities and product mix decisions
• Coordinate with Marketing, Store Operations, and Supply Chain to ensure category execution at store level
• Support and mentor Category Assistants where applicable

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain, or related field
• Minimum 3-4 years of experience in category management, buying, or merchandising — retail, wholesale, or FMCG background preferred
• Prior exposure to supplier negotiation or vendor management is an advantage
• Strong analytical, organizational, and stakeholder coordination skills
• Experience in Dry Food categories is an advantage
