Way. About The Role
This role supports the Senior Application Architect and IT Leadership Team in designing and implementing system and application architecture for the Gallagher Australia Broking business. The ideal candidate will understand architecture frameworks and principles and how technology enables business strategies. In addition to strong technical skills, the role requires effective stakeholder collaboration to ensure business requirements and technical solutions align with business needs and will collaborate closely with business teams, operational SMEs, and technology SMEs to create and maintain the application landscape.
Responsibilities include providing architectural direction, determining development standards and toolsets, and assessing the impact of design decisions on current and future application landscapes. The candidate must also articulate options and benefits to senior management to secure approval. The role involves additional hands‑on tasks such as incident management, platform administration, low‑code development, and configuration activities, in partnership with key technology and business owners.
Become a subject matter expert on core broking systems.
Collaborate with senior architects and cross‑functional teams to align application architecture with IT and business requirements.
Create and refine business functional and non‑functional requirements in collaboration with analysts and various business and technical stakeholders.
Translate requirements into technical specifications to guide development and implementation and ensure solution designs are scalable, supportable and can be delivered in a timely manner to high quality standards.
Produce and present artefacts e.g. Solution Concepts, High‑Level Designs, and Privacy/Security intake forms, with a focus on using modern approaches.
Ensure that solutions adhere to Group IT Security Standard & IT Guiding principles.
Effectively communicate technical solutions and ideas to non‑technical staff.
Ensure that there is an efficient transfer of knowledge and documentation between IT teams to remove single points of failure and to guarantee the supportability of key broking systems.
Assist with critical failures within the solutions that require detailed level knowledge.
Provide support for critical systems that are dependent on solution architecture.
For You will ideally have a broad skill set and strong expertise in Application Architecture and experienced with tools and technologies supporting large-scale business operations is essential. 5+ years’ experience as an Application Architect or technical lead role, with a focus on designing, implementing, and maintaining application architecture and technical solutions.
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; or job experience to a similar level of education.
Knowledge of TOGAF or other architectural frameworks and associated principles.
Solid understanding of Application Architecture, Web Development, Security, Networks, and Infrastructure.
Experience in Platform Administration (e.g. CRM), Configuration, and Monitoring.
Proficiency in Incident Management and Automation processes.
Hands‑on experience with enterprise tools and technologies supporting large-scale business operations.
Ability to deliver robust and efficient solutions for core broking and automation platforms.
Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with business teams, operational SMEs, and technology SMEs.
Capability to assess the impact of design decisions on current and future application landscapes.
Skilled in articulating technical options and benefits to senior management to gain approval.
Familiarity with low‑code development, such as workflows, and configuration activities.
And Experience Experience in the finance or insurance industry is highly regarded. Development experience with languages such as .Net, Java, or front‑end libraries. Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, including services like Azure DevOps and Azure App Services.
Knowledge of robotic automation tools and frameworks, such as UI Path and Power Automate.
Working knowledge of databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, and DB2.
Familiarity with enterprise monitoring and reporting tools.
