API Integration Engineer

About the Role
We are looking for an API Integration Engineer who will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and supporting API and system integrations. The role will work closely with architects, technical teams, business stakeholders, and external partners to deliver secure, scalable, maintainable, and reliable integration solutions.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, analytical, and comfortable working across API development, integration, testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and production support with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare functional and test data, and monitor and support testing activities, including API performance testing and code optimization as needed.
- Integrate third-party services through APIs using standard integration methodologies and tools.
- Design and implement integration solutions aligned with technical requirements, business processes, system architecture, and organizational needs.
- Define and drive integration strategies and methods in collaboration with Principal and Lead Architects.
- Translate business and technical requirements into API specifications and integration designs.
- Collaborate with relevant teams to understand requirements and implement APIs and integrations in accordance with established architecture frameworks and IT strategies.
- Provide guidance on API protocols and frameworks to build secure, maintainable, and scalable APIs.
- Build and maintain API specifications and documentation.
- Document integration processes and develop user guides and technical documentation for team use.
- Perform and verify integration-point testing for assigned project and support activities.
- Investigate technical issues and provide initial assessments, root cause analysis, and sequence-of-events documentation to support issue resolution and prevent recurrence.
- Plan and coordinate required technical and project documentation through the appropriate approval processes.
- Engage with customers and stakeholders through various channels to understand requirements, communicate clearly, and resolve technical issues.
- Develop automated system performance monitoring and generate reports on recurring issues to proactively address potential problems.
- Participate in transition, knowledge transfer, and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Perform hands-on coding, peer code reviews, development task management, environment configuration, deployment, and production support activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 3+ years of relevant experience with API management platforms or similar integration tools.
- 3+ years of experience designing, developing, and implementing RESTful or GraphQL APIs for systems integration.
- Strong experience working with JSON and XML.
- 3+ years of programming and scripting experience with Unix, JavaScript, and Python.
- Proven ability to translate requirements into API specifications and designs using RAML or OpenAPI standards.
- Strong understanding of API design, management policies, standards, and best practices.
- Practical experience with Agile Software Development Life Cycle and Scrum methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with coding, peer code reviews, development activities, environment configuration, deployment, and support operations.
- Understanding of software and implementation blueprints, technical documentation, workflow processes, and business process analysis.
- Foundational knowledge of IT security principles and database systems.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively bridge technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Cloud certification such as Azure, AWS, or GCP Cloud Engineer / Solution Architect certification.
- Experience with cloud-based API management or integration platforms.
- Experience with API performance monitoring, automation, and system reliability initiatives.
