Job summary

Sun Life Financial, Inc. in the Philippines seeks an Actuarial Specialist to support Par management and risk modelling within the Actuarial Valuation function.

You will work on dividend studies, Par reporting, FCT and risk sensitivity analyses to provide insights for strategic decisions and regulatory compliance. Collaborate with senior actuaries and cross-functional teams, contribute to automation projects, and prepare management reports for regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • University degree with strong mathematical or statistical background.
  • Associate or near-associate of the Actuarial Society of the Philippines (ASP).
  • 7+ years actuarial experience, preferably in life insurance.
  • Strong knowledge of actuarial modelling and valuation concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with actuarial modelling software, preferably AXIS.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Automation and data analytics experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Attention to detail and ownership mindset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Collaborative team player with strong stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Dividend studies for traditional par products with recommendations to Chief Actuary and management.
  • Prepare quarterly valuation deliverables and TVOG/UDL for Par products; support regulatory reporting.
  • Contribute to FCT process, run scenarios and present results to senior management.
  • Develop, enhance and maintain risk sensitivity models for market and insurance risks; report quarterly results.
  • Support ad-hoc actuarial projects and process automation initiatives as needed.

Job Description:

The Actuarial Specialist, Par Management and Risk Modelling is responsible for supporting participating (Par) business management activities and risk modelling initiatives within the Actuarial Valuation function. The role plays a key part in dividend studies, Par reporting, financial condition testing, and risk sensitivity analysis, providing valuable insights to support strategic decision-making and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities
Dividend Study:
  • Conduct comprehensive annual dividend studies for traditional participating (par) products
  • Analyze experience and financial results to determine appropriate dividend recommendations.
  • Prepare and present well-supported dividend recommendations to the Chief Actuary and senior management.
Par Reporting:
  • Prepare quarterly valuation deliverables related to traditional participating products, including: Time Value of Guarantees (TVOG) and Unallocated Dividend Liability (UDL)
  • Perform stochastic asset modelling using actuarial software.
  • Support the preparation of regulatory and management reports related to the participating business.
  • Prepare reports required for OSFI and other regulatory reporting requirements.
Financial Condition Testing (FCT):
  • Contribute to the completion of the annual FCT process
  • Perform scenario analysis and assess the financial impact of adverse events.
  • Analyze results and prepare reports and presentations for senior management review.
Risk Sensitivity Analysis:
  • Support the development, enhancement, and maintenance of risk sensitivity models for market and insurance risks.
  • Produce and analyze quarterly market and insurance risk sensitivity results.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on observed trends and risk exposures.
Ad-hoc projects depending on business needs such as but not limited to:
  • Support semi-annual business planning and projection exercises.
  • Contribute to process improvement and automation initiatives within the Actuarial function.
  • Participate in strategic and ad hoc actuarial projects as required by the business.
Qualifications
  • University degree with a strong mathematical or statistical background
  • Associate or near-associate of the Actuarial Society of the Philippines (ASP)
  • Minimum of 7 years of actuarial experience, preferably within life insurance
  • Strong knowledge of actuarial modelling and valuation concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with actuarial modelling software, preferably AXIS.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with automation and data analytics tools is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • High attention to detail and strong sense of ownership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
