Offer Description

Clinical tenure-track professorship position in “Intelligent Biosignal Processing” for candidates holding a doctorate/PhD in accordance with the collective agreement for university employees at the Department of Anesthesiology and Operative Intensive Care Medicine (Faculty of Medicine at the Johannes Kepler University).

In accordance with the collective agreement for university employees and the 2002 Austrian Universities Act (UG) regarding a full-time position (40 hours per week) for a limited period of six years, prospective applicants for the tenure-track position must hold a doctorate/Ph.D. The tenure-track professorship position is primarily assigned to the Department of Anesthesiology andOperative Intensive Care Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, and secondly to the Linz Institute of Technology Artificial Intelligence LAB (LIT AI LAB).

The position is open to highly qualified junior researchers holding a doctorate/PhD in medicine or natural sciences (biology, biochemistry, etc.) and includes the option of concluding a qualification agreement which could result in a permanent position as Associate Professor (section 99 para. 5 and 6 of the Austrian Universities Act) upon positive decision.

The offered tenure-track professorship position in Intelligent Biosignal Processing is intended to significantly advance the development of the “Medical AI” continuing education program at the JKU and to be organized in collaboration with the Center for Medical Education.

The successful candidate is expected to promote the JKU’s research activities by combining the fields mathematical modeling, machine learning and medical signal processing to optimize diagnostic processes. The methods are supposed to improve the signal quality and examine the signal relevance for different pathological processes. The focus of all analyses is on the clinical application of the gathered results. All analyses are therefore closely linked to clinical significance and validity.

The holder of the tenure-track professorship position in Intelligent Biosignal Processing should demonstrate a strong commitment to interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration across various disciplines and with different professional care groups and medical-technical services.

The prospective applicant will be expected to demonstrate a record of scholarly activity following the successful completion of a doctorate/PhD, including outstanding publications, teaching experience, and having successfully acquired external research funding. The candidate’s doctorate/PhD degree should be no older than ten years, whereby career breaks on account of parental leave, military or alternative service, etc. may be deducted.
