Offer Description

In accordance with the collective agreement for university employees, the Department of Clinical Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine (Faculty of Medicine at the Johannes Kepler University) invites applications by candidates holding a doctorate/PhD to apply for a clinical tenure-track professorship position in “Clinical Infectious Diseases”.

In accordance with the collective agreement for university employees and the 2002 Austrian Universities Act (UG) regarding a full-time position (40 hours per week) for a limited period of six years, prospective applicants for the tenure-track position at the Department of Clinical Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at the JKU’s Faculty of Medicine must hold a doctorate/Ph.D. The position will involve a combination of research, teaching, and clinical care. The allocation of time between research and teaching (30%) and clinical practice (70%) will be determined in consultation with the Kepler University Hospital.

The position is open to highly qualified junior researchers holding a doctorate/PhD in medicine and includes the option of concluding a qualification agreement which could result in a permanent position as Associate Professor (section 99 para. 5 and 6 of the Austrian Universities Act).

The successful candidate is expected to promote the JKU’s research activities in the field of patient-focused clinical research. Particular importance is attached to the planning and conduct of clinical therapy trials, which are to be carried out in close collaboration with the research groups at the Ignaz Semmelweis Institute. The aim of the clinical tenure-track professorship position is the establishment of independent research groups that promote and usefully expand existing core areas, especially mycoses and travel medicine.

In addition, the responsibilities of the clinical tenure-track professorship include the inpatient, outpatient, and consultative care of patients with acute and chronic infectious diseases, including tropical disease patterns.

The prospective applicant will be expected to demonstrate a record of scholarly activity following the successful completion of a doctorate/PhD, including outstanding publications, teaching experience, and having successfully acquired external research funding. The candidate’s doctorate/PhD degree should be no older than ten years, whereby career breaks on account of parental leave, military or alternative service, etc. may be deducted.
