Statkraft is seeking an experienced Market Analyst to define assumptions for long-term electricity projections and run SDDP models for hydro-thermal dispatch. You will collaborate with the Oslo CSA team on LPF studies and oversee mid-to-long-term forecasting efforts.

You will develop automation tools (VBA/Python/SQL/Power BI), analyze market trends, and provide revenue projections for potential projects. English fluency and strong knowledge of energy markets are essential.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering or energy field.
• Minimum 5 years in a similar role in power generation with hydro-thermal dispatch models.
• Strong knowledge of energy market regulation and power systems optimization.
• Proficiency in VBA, Python, SQL and Power BI.

Responsabilidades

• Define and prepare assumptions for long-term electricity market projection studies (Y+4) and update model database for Base Cases and sensitivities.
• Run simulations with the SDDP optimization model to project marginal costs and production for thermal and hydro units in SEIN; validate results and assess contributions to margins and risk.
• Coordinate and participate in annual LPF study development with CSA team in Oslo for long-term forecasting.
• Supervise development of assumptions and runs in SDDP for mid-term price forecasting (Y+2).
• Oversee evaluation reports for mid/long-term price forecasts to identify model improvements.
• Oversee backtesting of the SDDP model to improve market representation and robustness.
• Implement and ensure adherence to Guiding Principles for Market Analysis per MGX requirements.
• Explore visualization tools developed by corporate team.
• Develop automation tools using VBA, Python, Power BI, and databases to streamline market modeling, data processing, and reporting, reducing execution time.
• Prepare bi-monthly Market Update reports and provide information to management for Market Board meetings.
• Perform revenue projections for potential projects (M&A/Greenfield) under evaluation.
• Regularly review processes with HQ and competence centers to share best practices.

Job Description

• Responsible for defining and preparing assumptions (demand, hydrology, maintenance, fuel prices, etc.) required for long‑term (Y+4) electricity market projection studies, as well as updating the model database with the necessary information to run Base Cases and required Sensitivities.
• Run simulations using the SDDP optimization model to obtain projections of marginal costs and production for thermal and hydro units in the SEIN; additionally, analyze and validate the consistency of the results to ensure accurate projections of Contribution Margin and risk assessments.
• Coordinate and actively participate in the preparation of the annual LPF study (beyond Y+4), developed jointly with the CSA team in Oslo, for subsequent use in long‑term forecasting exercises.
• Supervise and coordinate the development of assumptions and run simulations in the SDDP model for medium‑term price forecasting (Y+2).
• Supervise and coordinate the evaluation reports for medium and long‑term price forecasts in order to identify opportunities to improve model performance.
• Supervise and coordinate the backtesting process of the SDDP model with the objective of proposing improvements to market representation and achieving more robust results.
• Implement and ensure compliance of the document “Guiding Principles for Market Analysis” in accordance with corporate (MGX) requirements.
• Explore and adapt visualization tools developed by the corporate team.
• Develop automation tools using VBA, Python, Power BI, and/or databases to streamline market modeling processes, calculations involving large volumes of data, and the preparation of reports on production results, marginal costs, contribution margin projections, and dispatch management, with the objective of reducing execution time.
• Prepare bimonthly price and market trend reports (Market Update) and provide periodic information to management for Market Board meetings.
• Perform revenue projections for potential projects under evaluation, including M&A and/or Greenfield opportunities.
• Regularly review and assess the area’s processes and, in coordination with Headquarters (Oslo) and competence centers (hydrology and analysis), identify and exchange best practices and improvement opportunities to ensure proper execution.

Level of education

• Higher education, bachelor's degree and/or university diploma

Specialization

• Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Mechanic Engineering, Energy Management

Experience

• 5 years in similar position in commercial areas of power generation companies using hydro-thermal dispatch models (NCP, SDDP, others)

Other knowledge

• Good knowledge in the regulation of energy markets
• Optimization of power systems
• Advanced English level
• Specialized software to forecast energy prices
• Programming skills in VBA, Python, SQL and/or Power BI
