Beyond defining and enforcing best practices, the Principal Engineer is actively involved in leading project execution, engaging directly with clients, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and contributing to the overall strategy and direction of the company.They are responsible for fostering a culture of continuous learning, technical excellence, and collaboration across engineering teams, while ensuring that every project they oversee is delivered successfully and meets client expectations.**Project Leadership & Client Engagement**The Principal Engineer takes ownership of project execution end-to-end, acting as the technical anchor for both the team and the client throughout the engagement.* **Project Leadership:**Lead assigned projects from inception through delivery, ensuring scope, quality, and timelines are consistently met and that work is delivered on-time and on-budget.* **Client Engagement:**Serve as a primary point of contact with the client, maintaining clear, proactive, and transparent communication around progress, risks, trade-offs, and decisions.* **Agile Rituals:**Drive and participate in agile ceremonies (daily stand-ups, refinements, planning, retrospectives, and reviews), ensuring the team operates with discipline and predictability.* **Pull Request Reviews:**Perform thorough and timely reviews of pull requests, providing actionable feedback that improves code quality, maintainability, and alignment with architectural standards.* **Hands-On Contribution:**Roll up your sleeves and write or fix code whenever the project requires it — whether to unblock the team, address critical issues, or accelerate delivery of high-priority items.* **Code Audits:**Conduct periodic code audits across assigned projects to identify risks, technical debt, and opportunities for improvement, and to ensure ongoing adherence to engineering standards.**Technical Leadership & Engineering Excellence**Beyond individual project delivery, the Principal Engineer shapes the broader technical culture and capability of Outcode Software.* **Team Support:**Act as a go-to resource to unblock project teams by troubleshooting complex technical challenges, providing solutions, and helping teams meet their commitments.* **Technical Guidance:**Provide in-depth technical guidance across every project assigned, raising the engineering bar through mentorship and example.* **Define Best Practices:**Lead the creation and adoption of engineering best practices and guidelines that align with Outcode Software’s vision and objectives.* **Implementation & Coaching:**Partner with Engineering Managers and Tech Leads to implement and ensure the adoption of best practices across all projects.* **Training & Development:**Plan, organize, and deliver ongoing training and mentoring programs to ensure engineers are continuously learning and improving their skills.* **Contribute to Strategy:**Work alongside senior leadership to shape technical strategies that drive the company’s long-term goals, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.* **Internal Tools & Process Improvement:**Contribute to building and maintaining internal tools, frameworks, and processes that streamline development workflows and improve overall productivity.**Qualifications*** 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a track record of leadership and technical expertise.* Strong proficiency in a variety of development technologies and methodologies (e.g., Agile, DevOps, cloud platforms).* Proven experience leading projects end-to-end, owning delivery against scope, quality, and timeline commitments.* Demonstrated ability to engage directly with clients, communicating technical concepts clearly and managing expectations across stakeholders.* Comfort facilitating and participating in agile rituals (DSUs, refinements, planning, retrospectives).* Strong hands-on coding skills, with the willingness to write and fix code whenever the project demands it.* Solid experience with code review practices, code audits, and ensuring adherence to best practices.* Proven experience mentoring and coaching engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence.* Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, particularly in complex technical situations.* Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and with leadership.* Passion for continuous learning and staying current with industry trends.
