Job summary

Airswift seeks a Tower Quality Inspector/Engineer in Oman to lead on-site QC of wind tower fabrication, covering Black/White Tower production. You will execute NDT, coating inspection, and RCA for defects, interfacing with production, clients, and third-party inspectors during FAT.

The role requires 5+ years in wind tower QC/QA, NDT Level II, and a Diploma in Mechanical/Metallurgical Engineering. Strong communication and hands-on shop-floor decision-making are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of QC/QA in wind tower steel fabrication or heavy structural steel.
• NDT Certification Level II or equivalent in UT/MT/PT.
• Diploma or higher in Mechanical/Metallurgical Engineering or related field.
• Deep understanding of full steel tower production cycle: plate rolling, submerged arc welding, flange machining/assembly, corrosion protection systems.
• Proficient with UT gauges, coating thickness gauges, pull-off testers, holiday detectors, calipers, micrometers, flange alignment jigs.
• Strong analytical skills with track record of defect investigations and CAPA implementation.
• English—written and spoken; Chinese is a plus.

Responsibilities

Job Title: Tower Quality Inspector / Engineer (Wind Steel Fabrication)

Reporting To: Site Quality Manager / Plant Manager

Location: Oman

Industry: Renewable Energy

Role Summary: To serves as the on-site quality inspector at our wind tower fabrication plant. You will be responsible for in-process and final quality control of steel tower sections, covering Black Tower and White Tower production. This role requires hands-on NDT execution, coating inspection, paint damage repair knowledge, and root cause analysis of defects. You will act as the primary quality interface between production, clients, and third-party inspectors (if applicable) during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).

Key Responsibilities

1. 1. Quality Assurance for Steel Tower Sections Oversee and enforce quality standards throughout the fabrication of steel wind towers, including cutting, beveling, plate rolling, fit-up, welding, flange assembly, and final dimensional alignment. Conduct stage-wise inspections against project specifications, engineering drawings, and industry standards. Verify welder qualifications, WPS/PQR compliance, and welding consumable traceability. Ensure dimensional accuracy of shell cans, flanges, and internal/external attachments using appropriate gauges and alignment tools.
2. 2. NDT & Hands-On Inspection Perform and interpret Non-Destructive Testing methods. Utilize inspection equipment: UT thickness gauges, calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, flange flatness measuring tools, and weld gauges. Monitor and audit NDT subcontractors when required.
3. 3. Coating, Paint Damage Repair & Root Cause Analysis Inspect surface preparation and coating application. Practical knowledge of repairing paint/coating damage. Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for weld defects, coating failures, delamination, and corrosion issues using 8D, fishbone, or 5-Why methodologies.
4. 4. Documentation, Supervision & Client Interface Maintain full quality traceability: material test certificates, NDT reports, coating logs, NCRs, concession requests, and final inspection dossiers. Represent the company during client and third-party FAT inspections, ensuring all punch-list items are closed out prior to shipment. Prepare weekly quality performance reports highlighting defect trends, rejection rates, and improvement actions.

Key Requirements

• Experience 5+ years of QC/QA experience in wind tower steel fabrication or heavy structural steel manufacturing.
• NDT Certification Level II or equivalent in UT, MT, and PT – mandatory.
• Education Diploma or above in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field.
• Process Knowledge Deep understanding of full steel tower production cycle: plate rolling, submerged arc welding, flange machining/assembly, corrosion protection systems.
• Inspection Tools Proficient in using UT gauges, coating thickness gauges, pull-off adhesion testers, holiday detectors, calipers, micrometers, and flange alignment jigs.
• RCA & Problem-Solving Strong analytical skills with proven track record of leading defect investigations and CAPA implementation.
• Languages English – workable (written and spoken). Chinese language is a plus.
• Brief exposure to hybrid tower (concrete-steel combination) concepts is an added value.
• Soft Skills Strong communication, supervision, and client-facing skills. Ability to work under pressure and make quick, sound quality decisions on the shop floor.
