Role Objective

The Senior Technical Engineer is responsible for coordinating technical matters between the Engineering Team, Project Management Team, Procurement, BIM, Site Team, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.

The role ensures that materials, specifications, designs, drawings, and technical submittals are properly reviewed, coordinated, approved, and aligned with project requirements and timelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the main coordination point between the Engineering Team and Project Management Team for all technical matters.
• Coordinate technical requirements related to materials, specifications, designs, drawings, shop drawings, BIM models, and engineering deliverables.
• Review and follow up technical submittals, drawings, material approvals, RFIs, and design documents to ensure compliance with project specifications and client requirements.
• Coordinate with engineering disciplines to ensure design outputs are aligned with project scope, procurement needs, construction priorities, and project schedule.
• Support the Project Management Team with technical clarifications, design updates, material status, specification reviews, and engineering progress reports.
• Coordinate the review and approval of electrical and mechanical material submittals, technical datasheets, compliance statements, samples, and pre-qualification documents.
• Ensure proposed electrical and mechanical materials comply with approved specifications, design intent, quality standards, authority requirements, and project needs.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical materials and systems, including cables, panels, lighting, ELV systems, HVAC, piping, pumps, valves, ducts, plumbing, firefighting, insulation, and related accessories.
• Identify and coordinate the resolution of technical deviations, design conflicts, specification gaps, and material non-compliance issues.
• Coordinate with the BIM team for model updates, clash resolution, and alignment with approved drawings, specifications, and site requirements.
• Coordinate the preparation, review, and issuance of shop drawings and SFC — Issued for Construction drawings to site.
• Support procurement by preparing and coordinating technical input for material and subcontractor bid packages.
• Coordinate technical evaluations of supplier and subcontractor offers to ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Update procurement teams regarding required addenda, technical clarifications, or specification revisions related to bid packages.
• Coordinate and review third-party designs to ensure compatibility with all relevant disciplines, where applicable.
• Support value engineering proposals by coordinating technically compliant and cost-effective alternatives.
• Maintain technical logs and trackers, including drawing logs, material submittal logs, RFI logs, design review logs, and approval status reports.
• Coordinate with site teams to resolve technical issues and ensure execution is aligned with approved drawings, materials, and specifications.
• Prepare technical coordination reports, pending action lists, and progress updates for project meetings.
• Guide and support junior technical engineers/coordinators in documentation, coordination, and follow-up activities.

Qualifications and skills requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 6–10 years of relevant experience in technical coordination, engineering coordination, project engineering, or construction project support.
• PMP certification.
• LEED Green Associate certification.
• Experience in industrial, commercial facility, EPC, and fast-track construction projects is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical materials, technical specifications, design coordination, shop drawings, BIM coordination, and material approvals.
• Experience coordinating with engineering, project management, procurement, site teams, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Ability to review drawings, specifications, material submittals, datasheets, compliance documents, and technical proposals.
• Strong communication, follow-up, reporting, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple technical deliverables and priorities within tight project timelines.
