Job description

Senior Petroleum Geochemist - Major Oil Company - Oman - USD 10-12,000 per month

My client is seeking to fill a highly specialized, technical position within their organization. This is a direct, permanent hire. The role offers an excellent opportunity to apply geochemistry across a large and diverse hydrocarbon maturation portfolio, including frontier exploration of unconventional gas and mature fields under established EOR schemes.

This position reports to the Team Lead for Geochemistry and Basin Modelling and collaborates closely with geological services, specialist teams, and the Production Chemistry department. Internal stakeholders include 'Exploration Evaluation', 'New Opportunities', and 'Petroleum Engineering Asset Development' teams.

The primary responsibility is to provide expert geochemical support and advice to Exploration and Production asset teams. Daily duties include:

  1. Planning, defining, and monitoring QC and close-out geochemical projects, including budget management.
  2. Identifying geochemistry-related problems and opportunities for technological improvements.
  3. Conducting specialist studies for integrated projects, leading scope and deliverables.
  4. Providing expert input on charge risk and production-related geochemical issues.
  5. Managing quality control of contractor specialist studies.

Package / Other Details

The package includes a competitive salary of USD 10,000-12,000 per month, housing and education allowances for up to 3 children, family medical coverage, and annual business class flights to the country of origin. Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology with a major in Chemistry and postgraduate qualification (PhD or MSc) in Geochemistry, or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry with a postgraduate qualification in Geoscience, or
  • Experience as a Basin Modeler with a geochemical background.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of hands-on experience in subsurface fluid evaluation.
  • Experience with geochemistry sampling, mud gas logging, and hydrocarbon fingerprinting.
  • Extensive knowledge of reservoir production allocation.
  • Understanding of hydrocarbon source rocks and migration processes.
  • Proficiency in analytical and interpretative techniques.
  • Knowledge of Middle East stratigraphy is advantageous but not essential.
  • Understanding of how exploration and development link to business drivers.
  • Comfort with technology and innovation.
