Oman Investment Authority is seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Maintenance Lead to plan, supervise and optimize mechanical maintenance for medium to high complexity power and water plant systems, ensuring safe, reliable operation. You will analyze issues, lead technicians, and drive continuous improvement.

The role covers troubleshooting, maintenance planning, technical guidance, documentation, and coordination with vendors, with a strong emphasis on safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering; English proficiency required; Arabic a plus.
  • 5–8 years of direct, relevant experience preferred.
  • Skills: mechanical troubleshooting, problem solving, teamwork; OSHA knowledge with Marafiq procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis – analyze complex mechanical issues and drive corrective actions.
  • Maintenance Planning & Execution – plan and supervise preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance.
  • Technical Supervision – provide guidance to engineers and technicians during maintenance activities.
  • Condition Monitoring & Performance Analysis – collaborate to solve complex issues.
  • SOP Development & Documentation – update maintenance SOPs and technical docs.
  • Maintenance Records & Reporting – prepare reports in CMMS/SAP for traceability.
  • Spare Parts & Contract Management – identify spares, review vendor offers, and manage tenders.
  • Maintenance & Shutdown Planning – ensure work scope and schedules are achievable.
  • Health, Safety & Quality – ensure compliance with safety standards and quality procedures.
  • Continuous Improvement & Reliability – lead initiatives for reliability, cost optimization and energy efficiency.
  • Lifecycle Cost & CAPEX justification – analyze whether repairs or replacements are preferable.

ROLE PURPOSE

To plan complex activity execute and supervise mechanical engineering and maintenance activities of medium to high complexity ensuring safe reliable and efficient operation of power and water plant mechanical systems The role includes technical analysis troubleshooting supervision of technicians and continuous improvement of plant reliability and performance

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • 1 Engineering Troubleshooting amp Root Cause Analysis Analyzing complex mechanical issues perform root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive actions to improve equipment reliability and availability and supporting Mechanical Leader to Manages the project timeline budget and resource allocation
  • 2 Mechanical Maintenance Planning amp Execution Plan complex activity supervise and execute preventive corrective and breakdown maintenance activities for rotating and static equipment in accordance with OEM recommendations and plant maintenance strategies
  • 3 Technical Supervision Provide complex technical guidance and supervision to Mechanical Engineer or mechanical technicians during maintenance works overhauls shutdowns and emergency repairs to ensure work quality and safety compliance
  • 4 Condition Monitoring amp Performance Analysis Collaborate with other vender and mechanical maintenance team members to work on solving complex mechanical issues
  • 5 SOP Development amp Technical Documentation Develop review and update mechanical maintenance SOPs work instructions and technical documentation Interpret mechanical drawings layouts and manuals to support maintenance and modification activities
  • 6 Maintenance Records amp Reporting Review and prepare maintenance reports job PTW and failure analysis reports in CMMS SAP systems to ensure accurate history and traceability
  • 7 Spare Parts amp contract management Identify critical spare parts prepare technical specifications tender strategies review vendor offers and support inventory optimization for mechanical equipment and Negotiates contracts manages tenders and evaluates vendor reliability
  • 8 Maintenance amp Shutdown Planning Participate in mechanical maintenance and shutdown planning ensuring work scope resources and schedules are technically sound and achievable
  • 9 Policies amp Procedures and engineering standards Promote a strong safety culture and ensure mechanical works are executed in compliance with health safety and quality Aware of engineering standards
  • 10 Health Safety amp Quality Comply with all relevant health safety and quality requirements to guarantee employee safety and legislative compliance
  • 11 Continuous Improvement amp Reliability Enhancement Lead Mechanical Engineer and Technician and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability improvement cost optimization energy efficiency and adoption of industry best practices
  • 12 Financial Subport Mechanical leader to focuses on the Lifecycle Cost They analyze whether it is cheaper to repair an asset or replace it entirely They often manage the O amp M Operations amp Maintenance budget for their section and handle the justification for capital expenditures CAPEX

Educational & Professional Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor s degree in mechanical engineering from a recognized university. Proficiency in English is a must, Arabic is a plus.
  • Minimum Experience: 5 to 8 years of direct and relevant experience is preferable.
  • Skills and Competencies: Generic Skills: Communication skills, Computer literacy (ERP, SAP), Microsoft tool (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Word). Job Specific Skills: Mechanical skills, Troubleshooting skills, Detail-Orientation, Problem-Solving skills, Teamwork, Manual Dexterity, Knowledge in OSHA standards with Marafiq procedures.
  • Behavioural Competencies: People Centricity, Integrity, Agility, Collaboration Familiar with techniques for ensuring data integrity with various integrations of information/ reports. Knowledgeable in HSE plans related to maintenance activities.
