OQ is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to oversee complex mechanical maintenance activities at our plant in Oman. You will plan and supervise preventive and breakdown maintenance for rotating and static equipment, ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, English proficiency, and 5–8 years of relevant experience, with strong skills in SAP/ERP, troubleshooting, and cross‑functional coordination.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is required.
  • Proficiency in English is a must; Arabic is a plus.
  • 5 to 8 years of direct and relevant experience is preferable.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse complex mechanical issues and perform root cause analysis; develop corrective and preventive actions to improve equipment reliability.
  • Supervise technicians and coordinate maintenance activities; ensure safety compliance and quality of work.
  • Plan and execute preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance for rotating and static equipment in line with OEM recommendations and plant strategies.
  • Develop, review and update mechanical maintenance SOPs, work instructions and technical documentation; interpret drawings to support modifications.
  • Review maintenance reports and ensure accurate history and traceability in CMMS/SAP; manage reports and tender strategies for spare parts and contracts.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, cost optimization, energy efficiency, and adoption of best practices.

To plan complex activity, execute, and supervise mechanical engineering and maintenance activities of medium to high complexity, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power and water plant mechanical systems. The role includes technical analysis, troubleshooting, supervision of technicians, and continuous improvement of plant reliability and performance.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Analysing complex mechanical issues, perform root cause analysis, and develop corrective and preventive actions to improve equipment reliability and availability and supporting Mechanical Leader to Manages the project timeline, budget, and resource allocation.

  • Mechanical Maintenance Planning & Execution

Plan complex activity, supervise, and execute preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities for rotating and static equipment in accordance with OEM recommendations and plant maintenance strategies.

  • Technical Supervision

Provide complex technical guidance and supervision to Mechanical Engineer or mechanical technicians during maintenance works, overhauls, shutdowns, and emergency repairs to ensure work quality and safety compliance

  • Condition Monitoring & Performance Analysis

Collaborate with other vender and mechanical maintenance team members to work on solving complex mechanical issues.

  • SOP Development & Technical Documentation

Develop, review, and update mechanical maintenance SOPs, work instructions, and technical documentation. Interpret mechanical drawings, layouts, and manuals to support maintenance and modification activities.

  • Maintenance Records & Reporting

Review and prepare maintenance reports, job PTW, and failure analysis reports in CMMS/SAP systems to ensure accurate history and traceability.

  • Spare Parts & contract management

Identify critical spare parts, prepare technical specifications tender strategies, review vendor offers, and support inventory optimization for mechanical equipment and Negotiates contracts, manages tenders, and evaluates vendor reliability.

  • Maintenance & Shutdown Planning

Participate in mechanical maintenance and shutdown planning, ensuring work scope, resources, and schedules are technically sound and achievable.

  • Policies & Procedures and engineering standards

Promote a strong safety culture and ensure mechanical works are executed in compliance with health, safety, and quality Aware of engineering standards.

  • Health, Safety & Quality

Comply with all relevant health, safety and quality requirements, to guarantee employee safety and legislative compliance.

  • Continuous Improvement & Reliability Enhancement

Lead Mechanical Engineer and Technician and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability improvement, cost optimization, energy efficiency, and adoption of industry best practices.

Subport Mechanical leader to focuses on the Lifecycle Cost. They analyse whether it is cheaper to repair an asset or replace it entirely. They often manage the O&M (Operations & Maintenance) budget for their section and handle the justification for capital expenditures (CAPEX).

ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Educational & Professional Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from a recognized university.
  • Proficiency in English is a must, Arabic is a plus.
  • 5 to 8 years of direct and relevant experience is preferable.
Skills and Competencies
  • Generic Skills: Communication skills, Computer literacy (ERP, SAP), Microsoft tool (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Word)
  • Job Specific Skills: Mechanical skills, Troubleshooting skills, Detail-Orientation, Problem-Solving skills, Teamwork, Manual Dexterity, Knowledge in OSHA standards with Marafiq procedures.
  • Familiar with techniques for ensuring data integrity with various integrations of information/ reports
  • Knowledgeable in HSE plans related to maintenance activities.
