Job summary

gu-recruitment is seeking a Head Office level Electrical Authority to lead design reviews and technical leadership for solar PV and BESS projects from concept through COD. You will define standards, review EPC/OEM designs, and drive interfaces across DC/AC systems, substations and grid connections.

The role requires extensive experience in renewables, hybrid projects and international contract frameworks, with strong oversight of safety, risk and project delivery.

Qualifications

• 10-15 years electrical engineering experience in power generation or renewables.
• 7-10 years hands-on Solar PV projects above 200 MW with 3-5 years BESS.
• Hybrid Solar PV + BESS project experience preferred.
• Experience with EPC, multi-contract or Owner-managed delivery models.
• Experience with utilities, IPPs, PV module OEMs, inverter suppliers and BESS integrators.
• Proficiency with Primavera P6, MS Project or Power BI.
• Preferred PMP or equivalent project management certification.

Responsibilities

• Act as electrical design authority and technical lead for solar PV and BESS from concept to commissioning.
• Review, challenge and approve electrical designs, studies, specs and calculations.
• Lead DC/AC design, inverter configurations, MV stations, BESS enclosures, PCS, EMS/BMS and protections.
• Oversee MV/HV collection, substation design and grid connection facilities.
• Lead grid connection activities including grid code compliance and reactive power capability.
• Manage electrical interfaces between PV arrays, BESS, substations, SCADA and plant control systems.
• Support procurement with technical evaluation of modules, inverters, BESS integrators.
• Support construction, commissioning, testing, energization and COD attainment.
• Provide electrical input to contractual, commercial and risk discussions.
• Assist O&M and Asset Management post-COD for performance optimization.

Job description

The role is a Head Office position acting as Owner, Owner’s Engineer or Electrical Technical Authority, providing expert design review and technical leadership across the full project lifecycle from early-stage feasibility through to Commercial Operation Date (COD).

Scope of Responsibilities

Act as electrical design authority and technical lead for solar PV and BESS projects from concept design through to commissioning and handover.

• Define, maintain and enforce Owner electrical standards, design criteria and design philosophies for Solar PV, BESS and hybrid project scopes.
• Review, challenge and approve EPC and OEM electrical designs, studies, specifications, single-line diagrams and engineering calculations.
• Lead electrical design of DC/AC systems, inverter configurations, MV stations, BESS enclosures, PCS, EMS/BMS and associated protection schemes.
• Oversee MV/HV collection and export system design, substation engineering and grid connection facilities for solar and BESS projects.
• Lead grid connection activities including grid code compliance, reactive power capability, frequency response and coordination with utilities and TSOs.
• Manage electrical interfaces between Solar PV arrays, BESS containers, MV/HV substations, SCADA, EMS and plant control systems.
• Review and approve technical specifications for inverters, PCS units, transformers, switchgear, cables, protection systems and BMS equipment.
• Support procurement activities including technical evaluation of PV modules, inverter suppliers, BESS integrators and balance-of-plant electrical contractors.
• Support construction, commissioning, testing, energization and achievement of COD.
• Provide electrical input to contractual, commercial and technical risk management discussions.
• Support O&M and Asset Management teams post-COD, including failure analysis, performance optimization and BESS degradation management.

Requirements

• 10-15 years of professional experience in electrical engineering within power generation or renewable energy projects.
• 7–10 years of direct hands-on experience in Solar PV projects above 200 MW, with at least 3–5 years of BESS project experience.
• Proven experience on hybrid Solar PV + BESS projects is strongly preferred.
• Experience working under EPC, multi-contract or Owner-managed delivery models.
• Experience working with utilities, IPPs, EPC contractors, PV module OEMs, inverter suppliers and BESS integrators.

Preferred Requirements

• PMP or equivalent project management certification.
• Experience as Owner’s Engineer or Electrical Technical Authority on solar or BESS projects.
• Proven hybrid Solar PV + BESS project experience.
• Experience in GCC utility-scale solar or storage projects.
• FIDIC or equivalent international contract framework knowledge.
• Proficiency with Primavera P6, MS Project or Power BI.
