Job summary

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group in Muscat is seeking a Pastry Cook - Seasonal to join our culinary team. You will assist the Chef de Partie in daily pastry duties, prepare ingredients and mise en place, and ensure high-quality production and presentation of pastries, desserts, and breads.

The role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to food safety standards, and participation in meetings and training. It is an on-site, full-time seasonal position at Mandarin Oriental Muscat.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Chef de Partie in daily duties and carry out assigned responsibilities within the Pastry section.
• Prepare ingredients and mise en place for the production of pastries, desserts, cakes, breads, and other pastry items.
• Ensure that all pastry mise en place is prepared to the highest quality according to standards set by the Chef de Partie.
• Prepare and produce pastry items according to approved recipes, preparation methods, portion sizes, and presentation standards.
• Ensure that all plating and presentation guides are followed according to the set dish description and presentation standards.
• Ensure the timely pickup of requisitions and organize items properly in their corresponding storage areas.
• Check the inventory of daily ingredients before each shift to ensure sufficient stock is available throughout service periods.
• Store ingredients and prepared pastry products appropriately, ensuring they are properly preserved and labelled according to standards.
• Ensure that working surfaces, pastry equipment, tools, utensils, and work areas are cleaned and sanitized before and after use in accordance with food safety standards.
• Always adhere to strict personal hygiene standards.
• Support and maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the Pastry kitchen and stewarding areas and assist with daily checks conducted by supervisors.
• Ensure compliance with the Safe & Sound food safety standards set by Mandarin Oriental Muscat and with Muscat Municipality rules and regulations.
• Ensure customer satisfaction in accordance with MOHG Legendary Quality Experiences (LQEs), MOHG Pillars, and the respective MOQA service standards.
• Work as part of the team and assist other colleagues when required.
• Support other outlets, banqueting operations, and special events with pastry production when requested by the Chef de Partie.
• Support other kitchen areas when required.
• Attend and participate in all required meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
• Perform any other reasonable duties as required by the Chef de Partie.
