Job summary

Asu invites applications for a Research Assistant (Technician) to support the Sarooj Materials Testing project. The role is laboratory-based, focusing on specimen preparation, curing and testing of mortar and concrete, with documentation tasks under the PI’s supervision.

You will perform mechanical and physical tests, prepare specimens, manage records, and assist with site visits, progress reporting and deliverables while maintaining safety and equipment.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in concrete, mortar or construction materials testing lab preferred.
• Familiarity with specimen casting, curing and compression or flexure testing per EN/ASTM preferred.
• Heritage restoration exposure a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare materials and mixes, cast, demould and label test specimens.
• Manage curing of specimens and maintain traceable batch records.
• Carry out mechanical and physical tests on mortar and concrete per standard procedures.
• Assist with other laboratory and environmental tests as project requires.
• Prepare specimens for testing and handle dispatch as needed.
• Assist with site visits and on-site trials.
• Record results, organize data in spreadsheets and support progress reporting.
• Maintain lab equipment and ensure safety practices.
• Support PI in progress reporting and project deliverables.
