Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in linguistics, translation, sports journalism, copywriting or related field.
• Native-level fluency in German with excellent grammar, writing, editing and proofreading skills.
• Experience translating or localizing multimedia content; MT evaluation is a plus.
• Strong creative writing and ability to adapt voice and messaging for German-speaking audiences.

Responsibilities

• Review, translate, localize, fact-check, and adapt sports-related content with a primary focus on football from English into German.
• Perform quality control on audiovisual and multimedia content while maintaining accuracy, tone, and style guides.
• Research German-market content, terminology and localization practices to ensure resonance with the target audience.
• Provide constructive feedback to improve linguistic quality and audience relevance.
• Adapt language and editorial style for football fans, younger audiences, and pop-culture communities.
• Manage a weekly workload of 2,000–5,000 words while maintaining accuracy and consistency.
• Apply proofreading and editing judgment to identify issues.
• Work independently in a remote environment and manage deadlines.

Accountabilities

• Review, translate, localize, fact-check, andadapt sports-relatedcontent, with aprimary focus onfootball, from USEnglish into German.

• Research German-marketcontent, terminology, producttrends, and localizationpractices to ensurecontent resonates withthe target audience.
• Provide constructive feedbackon localized andwritten contentiomprove linguisticquality and audiencerelevance.
• Adapt language andeditorial style todifferent audiences, includingfootball fans, youngeraudiences, and contemporarypop-culture communities.
• Manage an expectedweekly weighted volumeof approximately 2,000–5,000 words whilemaintaining high standardsof accuracy andconsistency.
• Apply strongproofreading and editingjudgment to identifygrammatical, stylistic,cultural, and factualissues.
• Work independently ina remote environmentand manageassigned workloads, deadlines, and quality expectationseffectively.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree orequivalent experience,with 2+ yearsof experiencein linguistics, translation, localization, sports journalism, copywriting, copy-editing, or a relatedfield.
• Extensive knowledge ofsports, particularly football, with the abilityto understand relevantterminology, competitions, teams, players, andfan culture.
• Native-level fluencyin German andexcellent grammar, writing, editing, and proofreadingskills in thetarget language.
• Professionalexperience translatingor localizing multimediacontent; experience withmachine translation andevaluation is anadvantage.
• Strong creative writingskills and theability to adaptvoice, tone, andmessaging naturally forGerman-speaking audiences.
• Excellent research andfact-checking abilities, with strong attentionto linguistic andfactual detail.
• Practicalproficiency with computers, mobile devices, word-processing applications, spreadsheets, and othercommon digital tools.
• Ownership of alicensed version ofMicrosoft Office applications.
• Ability to workindependently, meet deadlines, manage high-volumeassignments, and maintainconsistent quality ina remote setting.
• Published sports-relatedwork for outletssuch as ESPN, The Athletic, FourFourTwo, or comparableplatforms is astrong advantage.
• Experience with sportsmedia platforms, live-score applications, sportsstreaming services, orsimilar digital productsis desirable.
• Familiarity with GenZ communication, footballfan culture, andpop-culture languageis a plus.
