Job summary

ABB in Oman seeks an on-site Electrical/Automation Engineer to execute MV/LV site testing and commissioning with a first-time-right approach. You will review documentation, perform SAT activities, install and test devices, and ensure compliance with ABB procedures, quality standards, and safety guidelines.

Strong English and interpersonal skills are required. The role reports to the Local Division Manager, Service and involves close collaboration with the project team at customer sites in Oman.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical / Automation Engineering.
• 3-8 years of experience in MV/LV site testing and commissioning.
• Knowledge of common testing tools and safe working procedures at site.
• Good interpersonal and team working skills, plus English proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Participate in SAT with customer for MV and LV where possible.
• Receive project documentation and start site testing and commissioning activities.
• Fill project reports and align actions with Service Manager or Project Manager.
• Obtain permits, power on/off procedures, and download/analyze application programs.
• Verify hardware connections and ensure wiring conforms to documents.
• Install and verify functionality of devices per FAT results and project docs.
• Provide feedback to Engineering for drawings or scheme improvements.
• Update system documentation with mark-ups and configuration changes.
• Obtain SAT certificate from customer upon job completion.

This position reports to:

Your Role And Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to execute service work with low to medium complexity as per work instructions and in accordance with ABB standard processes, quality standards, and safety guidelines. Each day, you will plan and execute work on a first-time right approach with customers. You will also showcase your expertise by displaying a clear understanding of sense of urgency and care in your own area of responsibility.

This role is contributing to the {Electrification } in {Oman).

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Participate in SAT with customer for MV and LV where possible
• Receive the project documentation and all the technical information necessary to start the Site Projects testing and commissioning activity.
• Fill in the Projects related report and agree the actions with the Service Manager or Operation prior to site testing and commissioning or modification MV , LV Switch gear and Automation PLC .
• Accomplish the requested preliminary activities like permissions, Gate pass , power on/shutdown permits , application programs download and documentation check using the proper software tools and instrumentation, according to Company testing procedures
• Verify the correctness of all the hardware connections between the system (MV & LV System, Operator Interfaces and other network devices) under test making sure that the installed cables and wiring are made according to the related documents and are working properly
• Properly install and verify the correct functionality of all the installed devices in accordance with FAT results using diagnostic and application tools and following the project documentation as reference
• Feedback to Engineering department for improvements in schemes, corrections of drawings or any other modifications if required by customer at site after supply.
• Solve hardware and functional incongruence and mistakes is any found during Site testing phase, modifying the wrong hardware or software items involved and testing again the new hw or software configuration
• Update the system documentation with proper mark-ups and software configuration periodic updates, maintaining due trace of all the changes, following Company testing procedure indications
• Obtain the S.A.T (Factory Acceptance Test) certificate from the Customer at the completion of the job, eventually with the list of the pending items not yet completed, in cooperation with the Project Leader and the Project Manager
• Collects all the update documentation at the conclusion of the Commissioning job and send it to the operation manager or Service Manager for the delivery of the “As Commissioned” documents to the Engineering Department if changes have been made in agreement with Engineering Department whenever applicable.
• Collects all the Certificates and the other requested documents to complete the so called “Log Project Book” for the specific project and deliver it to the Project Leader and Project Manager for Contractual use
• Attend, together with the Customer, third party devices official testing when included in the scope of supply directly at sub suppliers premises

Qualifications For The Role

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical / Automation Engineering
• 3-8 years of experience in the specific field of application or similar fields (MV & LV complete product knowledge for site projects testing and commissioning)
• Knowledge of the most common testing tools (hardware and computerized)
• Knowledge of Safe working procedures at site
• Attitude to interpersonal relationships
• Good relation skill, Team working, Problem solving, English language knowledge
