Job summary

Mace is seeking a Director of Stations to lead architectural, engineering, and technical delivery for a major driverless rail network in the GCC. You will manage international design consultants, oversee complex interfaces, and ensure safety, RAMS, and regulatory compliance across multiple stakeholder groups.

The role demands 20+ years in land transport design with at least five years in a senior leadership position within large-scale projects, preferably with Middle East experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil or Structural Engineering with chartered status preferred.
• Chartered Engineer status or international equivalent is advantageous.
• 20 years’ land transport design, construction, or operations experience; minimum 5 years in senior leadership.
• Middle East experience is advantageous.
• Deep understanding of transit station design, MEP coordination, life-safety systems.
• Experience delivering stations within complex master plans or giga-projects.
• Proven ability to manage Tier 1 international design consultants and interface with real estate developers.

Responsibilities

• Own the functional design of all stations, ensuring PSD integration and passenger flow.
• Lead coordination between architecture, structure, and MEP systems including tunnel ventilation.
• Oversee station design to embed sub-systems (communications, SCADA, security) and maintain aesthetics.
• Direct and assess Tier 1 consultants; drive design reviews for quality, schedule, and budget.
• Establish governance: safety-by-design, gateways, RAMS, and configuration control.
• Champion value engineering to optimize space, constructability, and lifecycle costs.
• Interface with internal and external development teams for station footprints and utilities.
• Negotiate boundaries with developers to protect rail asset rights-of-way and project timelines.
• Resolve design conflicts between real estate ambitions and rail requirements for composite integration.
