Job summary

Sims Limited invites applications for a Yard Operator / General Hand in Christchurch to join our recycling operations. You will load/unload, operate yard equipment including a forklift, and help sort metals while maintaining a clean, safe site. The role provides hands-on experience in a growing, sustainability-focused industry.

This position supports our on-site team with general yard duties, customer service, and adherence to health and safety procedures in a dynamic outdoor environment.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current forklift licence.
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Reliable and proactive approach to work.
• Good attention to detail and willingness to learn about metal identification and grading.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload trucks, trailers, and bins safely and efficiently.
• Operate a forklift and other yard equipment.
• Sort, inspect, and separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
• Assist with purchasing and receival of recyclable materials.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and site presentation.
• Follow all health, safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
• Contribute to a positive safety culture by identifying and reporting hazards.
• Provide friendly and professional service to customers and suppliers.
• Support the wider team with general yard duties as required.
