Job summary

Sims Limited is seeking a Machine Operator in New Zealand to operate heavy machinery and support yard operations. You will sort and process scrap metal while maintaining high safety standards. Full training and opportunities to gain additional certifications will be provided.

The role demands attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Overtime is available and a positive, proactive mindset is essential.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience operating heavy machinery or similar equipment.
• Strong attention to detail, particularly when identifying and sorting different metal materials.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
• Proven reliability, excellent attendance, and a strong work ethic.
• The ability to follow safety procedures and contribute to a safe workplace culture.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate heavy machinery including Material Handlers, Excavators, Shears, and Front-End Loaders.
• Sort, identify and process various types of scrap metal.
• Monitor equipment performance and report operational issues.
• Assist in achieving production targets through planning and prioritisation.
• Work collaboratively with the team and also work independently.
