03rd November, 2026

About the Company:
An established South Taranaki engineering and manufacturing business is looking for an experienced Workshop Supervisor to lead a dedicated team delivering stainless-steel fabrication projects.
This is not simply a repeat-production role. You will make practical decisions on the workshop floor, solve problems and keep labour, materials, quality and programme on track. You will work closely with manufacturing, engineering and supply-chain colleagues.
The role:
Leading approximately 10 workshop team members, you will be responsible for:

  • Setting daily priorities and allocating work
  • Leading, motivating and coaching the team
  • Keeping projects on track by managing workflow, labour and materials
  • Identifying issues early and implementing practical recovery actions
  • Solving technical and workflow problems
  • Reading and interpreting drawings and specifications
  • Maintaining fabrication, welding, quality and health and safety standards
  • Monitoring job progress and ensuring labour and materials are accurately captured
  • Supporting equipment maintenance and troubleshooting in real-life situations
  • Working on the tools as required
  • Supporting occasional project installation work at customer sites
About you:
You will bring stainless-steel fabrication credibility together with proven leadership ability. Ideally, you will have:
  • At least 3 years' stainless-steel fabrication experience and/or a relevant trade qualification
  • Supervisory experience within fabrication, manufacturing, project-based &/ or a similar industrial environment
  • Proven TIG and MIG welding capability
  • Confidence reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
  • Experience leading and motivating tradespeople
  • Strong standards around quality and health and safety
  • The confidence to take ownership and make practical decisions
  • An understanding of project deadlines, labour utilisation and material costs
  • Practical computer skills, including email, spreadsheets and reading digital drawings
  • Experience with stainless-steel tanks, pressure vessels, industrial pipework, process equipment or other project fabrication would be particularly valuable.
  • Forklift, EWP, working-at-heights, confined-space, overhead-crane and slinging-load certifications would be advantageous, but training can be provided where required.
What's on offer:
  • Competitive Salary & 3 day weekend!
  • Work only 4 days per week, Monday to Thursday from 6:00am to 4:30pm
  • Staff transport between New Plymouth and the site workshop
  • Training for relevant licences and certifications
  • Varied, high-specification industrial project work
  • Potential relocation assistance for the right candidate

This opportunity will suit a hands‑on fabrication leader who enjoys being visible on the workshop floor, can earn the respect of experienced tradespeople and is comfortable making decisions to keep projects moving.
