Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children in Whanganui is seeking an administrative support professional to manage the administration needs of Social Work kaimahi, including scheduling, data entry, reception duties and liaison with vendors. The role is permanent and full-time, based at the Whanganui site, with a salary scale that recognises experience.

You will work with diverse communities, oversee health and safety responsibilities, and support the team in delivering statutory care and protection

Qualifications

  • Full clean New Zealand driver’s licence (may be considered case-by-case).
  • Strong computer and IT knowledge.
  • Admin skills such as typing, reporting, and coordinating site needs.
  • Cultural awareness and understanding of Tikanga Māori.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, adaptable to audience.
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices; knowledge of Tikanga Māori and Pacific cultures.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for administration needs of Social Work kaimahi including but not limited the following.
  • Assistance with financial plans, data collection and scheduling.
  • Liaise with vendors, casual staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Work with various cultural groups and people from different backgrounds.
  • Booking rooms, answering phones, and assisting on the reception desk.
  • Organising welcomes/whakatau for newcomers and whānau as required.
  • Deal with critical scenarios in a calm, professional manner.

Key requirements of the role include:

  • Full clean New Zealand drivers licence is required ( (historic convictions may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis)
  • Support the team with all aspects of Health and Safety
  • Have a strong computer and IT knowledge
  • Admin skills such as typing, reporting, responding to Site needs
  • cultural awareness and an understanding of Tikanga Māori principles

Oranga Tamariki offer a step based remuneration package, that offers progression annually for experience through tenure. Annual remuneration for this position starts between $57,096 and $62,773 dependant on experience.
