Job summary

Tauranga City Council is seeking a Water Engineer to join the Water Supply team. This permanent role supports planning, renewal, and growth of Tauranga’s drinking water network. You’ll ensure infrastructure is reliable, safe, and ready for the future.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years’ experience with water networks.
• Skills in water network design, data analysis, and reporting.
• Strong communication skills for explaining complex ideas.
• Experience managing contractors and overseeing project delivery.
• Willingness to work with digital platforms and new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead water network upgrades and renewal projects, including reducing leakage, improving metering, and preventing backflow.
• Provide engineering input for new developments and areas of growth.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance teams, and contractors to deliver infrastructure projects.
• Develop business cases and funding proposals.
• Explain technical information clearly to non‑engineers.
• Use digital tools to support decision‑making and improve network performance.
