Job summary

Juken New Zealand Ltd (JNL) is seeking a motivated Harvesting & Engineering Supervisor to join the Wairarapa Forestry team in New Zealand. You will assist with planning, coordination and monitoring of harvesting and engineering operations, learning how forestry operations are safely and sustainably managed while supporting JNL's objectives.

Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in Forestry, Forest Engineering, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
  • Up to three years' forestry or operational experience; graduates encouraged to apply.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and coordination of harvesting, roading, earthworks and engineering activities.
  • Assist with monitoring contractor performance, productivity, quality and compliance requirements.
  • Help manage wood flow and log delivery schedules to meet customer requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections, operational audits and quality checks.
  • Contribute to harvest planning, engineering projects and GIS-based operational planning.
  • Support health, safety and environmental initiatives across forestry operations.
  • Assist with reporting on operational performance, contractor activities and key performance indicators.
  • Build positive working relationships with contractors, forestry staff and stakeholders.
  • Participate in risk management activities including fire preparedness, biosecurity and environmental protection programmes.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic
Harvesting & Engineering Supervisor to join our Wairarapa Forestry team.

Reporting to the GM - Wairarapa Forests, this is an excellent opportunity for a recent forestry graduate or someone with a few years' industry experience who is looking to build a long-term career in harvesting, engineering and forest operations. You'll work alongside experienced forestry professionals and gain exposure to all aspects of harvest planning, roading, contractor management, health and safety, environmental compliance, and operational performance.

About the Role

As Harvesting & Engineering Supervisor, you'll assist with the planning, coordination and monitoring of harvesting and engineering operations across the forest estate. You'll develop a strong understanding of how forestry operations are managed safely, efficiently and sustainably while contributing to the delivery of JNL's operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with a positive attitude, strong initiative and a genuine interest in forestry operations.

Ideally you'll have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Forestry, Forest Engineering, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
  • Up to three years' forestry or operational experience, although graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • A commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Good organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • An analytical mindset and willingness to learn.
  • A current full New Zealand driver's licence.
