  • Ensure placements meet accreditation requirements, policies, and ethics obligations.
  • Contribute to development of the veterinary programme through professional development and sector representation.
  • Monitor compliance with BVSc programme requirements and university policies.

Job description

The School of Veterinary Science (SVS) is seeking to appoint a Veterinary Work Integrated Learning Coordinator to join our team in supporting the oversight of BVSc student work-integrated learning (clinical and non-clinical placements external to the university). This position will be working remotely (based from home) with a requirement to travel within New Zealand to contracted placement providers and to the Manawatu campus at times. This is a permanent appointment with the hours of work being negotiable but would suit someone looking for part-time work.

In this pivotal role, you will work closely with veterinary practices that support the clinical training of Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) students. You will help ensure students receive a high-quality learning experience during their clinical placements by maintaining strong relationships with partner practices, supporting teaching and assessment standards, and providing guidance to both students and supervisors. You will also play a key role in coordinating and administering Veterinary Work Integrated Learning (WIL) courses, ensuring placements run smoothly and accreditation requirements are met.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with contracted veterinary practices, ensuring the effective delivery of BVSc5 clinical training and promptly addressing any issues that arise.
  • Support and train practice staff in the teaching and assessment of veterinary students, while promoting continuous improvement in the student learning experience.
  • Provide guidance and support to students throughout their Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placements, including responding to feedback and managing expectations of students and placement providers.
  • Monitor and support compliance with BVSc programme requirements, accreditation standards, University policies, and relevant legislative and ethical obligations.
  • Coordinate Veterinary Work Integrated Learning courses, working closely with academic and administrative staff to manage course information, student queries, and results.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the veterinary programme through professional development, collaboration, and representation of the School at relevant sector events and activities.
Mou | About you

We're looking for someone with:

  • A veterinary professional degree, e.g., BVSc, DVM, VMD etc. that enables full registration with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand (generally from an AVBC, RCVS or AVMA CoE-accredited school).
  • Full drivers licence essential.
  • Experience with New Zealand veterinary clinical practice, ideally including rural mixed practice.
  • Previous teaching or training experience in a higher education setting is desirable.
