Job summary

The Ministry for Primary Industries in Hastings, Hawke's Bay, is seeking a Veterinary Technical Supervisor 2. The role provides verification and certification for meat exports, performing ante mortem inspections and ensuring animal welfare and biosecurity standards are met at a busy meat exporting plant.

You will work with veterinary colleagues and meat works personnel, participate in on-site training, and may rotate day and night shifts.

Qualifications

• Be a New Zealand registered Veterinarian or eligible for registration with VCNZ.
• Hold a full New Zealand driver’s licence or be able to obtain one.
• Have verbal and written communication and analytical reasoning skills.
• Demonstrate integrity, ethics, resilience and adaptability.
• Experience persuading and influencing, teamwork, planning and organizing.
• Computer literacy – able to use standard software incl. Word, Excel, internet, email.
• Knowledge of HACCP/Quality Assurance in Food Safety is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Verify that requirements and procedures are followed on site.
• Provide certification for animal meat exports.
• Complete ante mortem inspections and assess post-mortem decisions as needed.
• Maintain knowledge of farming communities and participate in on-farm verification.
• Ensure animal welfare is maintained.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (meat works staff, veterinary team).
