Job description

Lagoon Hill Station is a historic farming and sporting estate in the South Wairarapa. We are seeking an enthusiastic Under Keeper to join our team. This is a varied, hands‑on role mainly focused on game bird management with some general station operations including livestock and machinery.

This position will assist with the day to day operations of a commercial Game bird preserve in Tuturumuri, South Wairarapa. You will be responsible for taking care of the safety and welfare of the pheasants, whilst also ensuring that health and safety is maintained at all times.

You will also assist the Head Game Keeper to manage the shoot day operations, which include and not limited to volunteers and helpers, and assisting with all other facets within shoot days.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

General animal welfare & habitat maintenance

Developing crops, native & forestry areas, crop monitoring & cultivation

Pest control

Monitoring & maintaining the health & condition of bird stocks

Providing pastures & food to maintain nutritional levels

Moving bird stocks to optimise feeding opportunities

Directing and overseeing general pheasant / bird farming activities such as maintaining sheds & cages, fertilising, controlling pests & weeds & growing food

Maintaining fences, equipment & water supply systems to ensure the property, buildings and fences are maintained to a good standard.

Organising the sale, purchase & transportation of pheasant / bird stocks

Maintaining farm records, monitoring markets & planning pheasant / bird production

Prerequisites

You will need to be experienced in Game Keeping to apply for this role with at least 5 years’ relevant game keeping bird / poultry keeping experience. This is a full time permanent role on 40 hours per week and the base salary package of $55,000 plus benefits including accommodation. The total annual remuneration package is $70,600.

Strong work ethic and positive attitude.

Strong references

Clean Current International driver's license.

Firearms license preferred or willingness to obtain one.
