Job summary

The Ministry for Primary Industries in Hamilton is seeking a Travelling Technical Supervisor to verify export-ready animal products across sectors such as meat, dairy, seafood and poultry. You will conduct inspections and approve transfer of products through eligibility documents to ensure final export assurances.

This permanent, full-time role is based in Hamilton within the Waikato Bay of Plenty circuit, with training provided and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

  • Have a science degree (preferably a Food Science or Food Technology degree).
  • Experience in the food industry and understanding HACCP principles.
  • Knowledge of verification, Good Manufacturing Practices and Quality Assurance systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Full driver's licence with ability to drive Class 1 vehicles.

Travelling Technical Supervisor

Salary range: TTS Range 10: $94,641 to $117,976 depending on skills and experience


About the Role

You will carry out verification activities in accordance with the current legislation and Overseas Market Access requirements, thereby permitting the issue of official assurances for export. This is a diverse role, and you could be auditing several different sectors associated with animal products such as meat, dairy, seafood, and poultry.


Your key responsibilities will include:


  • Approving transfer of animal products through eligibility documents to provide final assurance for export of animal products

  • Completing inspections of incoming animal products for further processing

  • Manging your own time/calendar efficiently with the workload provided by the team leader

  • Technical training is provided to the successful applicant


About You

To be successful for this role you will:



  • Have a science degree (preferably a Food Science or Food Technology degree)

  • Have experience within the food industry and understand the principles of HACCP

  • Have knowledge of the principles and practices associated with verification, Good Manufacturing Practices and Quality Assurance systems

  • Have highly effective oral and written communication skills

  • Have a full driver's licence and ability to drive Class 1 vehicles

  • You must have a current full New Zealand driver licence (not temporary, learner, or provisional) or equivalent full foreign drivers licence, and any endorsements required for the type of driving you'll be doing


About the Team

You will be based in Hamilton as part of the Waikato Bay of Plenty Circuit team and will work within the Waikato Bay of Plenty region. You will report to the Waikato Team Leader. The role sits within the Verification Services Directorate. MPI Verification Services (MPI VS) provides a range of food safety verification and certification services to support market access strategies and setting standards.
