Job summary

Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is seeking a Travelling Technical Supervisor based in Hamilton to verify and issue official assurances for export of animal products. You will audit sectors such as meat, dairy, seafood, and poultry, and manage workload with the team leader in the Waikato Bay of Plenty region.

The role provides technical training and requires a science degree, HACCP knowledge, and a full NZ driver's licence.

Qualifications

• Degree in science (food science/food technology) preferred.
• Experience in food industry and understanding of HACCP.
• Knowledge of verification, GMP and quality assurance systems.
• Highly effective oral and written communication skills.
• Full NZ driver's licence and ability to drive Class 1 vehicles.

About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga

You will carry out verification activities in accordance with the current legislation and Overseas Market Access requirements, thereby permitting the issue of official assurances for export. This is a diverse role, and you could be auditing several different sectors associated with animal products such as meat, dairy, seafood, and poultry.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Approving transfer of animal products through eligibility documents to provide final assurance for export of animal products.
• Completing inspections of incoming animal products for further processing.
• Manging your own time/calendar efficiently with the workload provided by the team leader.

Technical training is provided to the successful applicant.

About You - Mōu

• Have a science degree (preferably a Food Science or Food Technology degree).
• Have experience within the food industry and understand the principles of HACCP
• Have knowledge of the principles and practices associated with verification, Good Manufacturing Practices and Quality Assurance systems.
• Have highly effective oral and written communication skills.
• Have a full driver's licence and ability to drive Class 1 vehicles

You must have a current full New Zealand driver licence (not temporary, learner, or provisional) or equivalent full foreign drivers licence, and any endorsements required for the type of driving you'll be doing.

About the Team

You will be based in Hamilton as part of the Waikato Bay of Plenty Circuit team and will work within the Waikato Bay of Plenty region. You will report to the Waikato Team Leader. The role sits within the Verification Services Directorate. MPI Verification Services (MPI VS) provides a range of food safety verification and certification services to support market access strategies and setting standards.
