Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

House of Travel is New Zealand's most awarded travel group, recognised as Best Place to Work (Large Category) for two consecutive years, ranked the #1 brand for customer experience in Kantar's Customer Leadership Index, and winner of the Canstar Blue Most Satisfied Customers Travel Agent Award 2025.

At House of Travel Ashburton, travel is personal. We’ve been part of the Ashburton community since 1987, building a loyal client base and helping generations of locals see the world.

Led by Owner Operator Maxine, who was part of the original HOT Ashburton team, you’ll join a highly experienced group of travel professionals who genuinely love what they do.

Our clients come to us because they value expert advice from people who have been there, done that and understand what makes a great holiday.

Now we’re looking for an experienced Travel Consultant to join the team.

An established local business. Join a store that has been part of the Ashburton community for nearly 40 years.

Loyal clients. Work with an established customer base that values personal service, expertise and trusted travel advice.

An experienced team. Work alongside knowledgeable travel professionals and share ideas, experience and destination knowledge.

Award-winning culture. Be part of a group recognised as Best Place to Work (Large Category) two years running.

The perks of travel. Enjoy industry travel benefits, educational opportunities and wellbeing support.

What you’ll do

You’ll get to know your clients, understand what matters most to them and use your experience to turn their ideas into incredible holidays.

You’ll manage the full travel journey – from researching destinations and finding the right flights, cruises, tours and accommodation through to creating itineraries, presenting recommendations, converting enquiries into bookings and taking care of all the details that follow.

Just as importantly, you’ll build relationships.

Ashburton is a close-knit community and many of our clients come back to us time and again. You’ll take ownership of those relationships, deliver the personal service they know us for and identify opportunities to grow your client base through repeat and referral business.

Whether you're planning a family getaway across the Tasman or piecing together a complex round-the-world itinerary, you'll have the experience and confidence to make it happen.

About you

We’re looking for someone who already knows and loves the travel industry and is ready to bring their experience to a successful local store.

You’ll bring:

Proven experience as a Travel Consultant

A genuine passion for travel and plenty of personal travel experience

Strong sales skills and confidence turning enquiries into bookings

The ability to build genuine, long-term relationships with clients

Excellent destination and travel product knowledge

Strong attention to detail and confidence managing your bookings from beginning to end

Great research and problem‑solving skills, especially when itineraries get complex or plans change

A collaborative attitude and desire to contribute to an experienced, supportive team

Experience using Amadeus is preferred

Most importantly, you’ll understand that great travel consulting is more than making a booking.

It’s about listening, sharing your knowledge, earning your clients’ trust and being the person they want to come back to when it’s time for their next adventure.

If you’re an experienced Travel Consultant looking for your next opportunity and like the idea of joining a trusted local business with a great team and loyal clients, we’d love to hear from you.
