SMEC is seeking a motivated Transport Engineer to join our Auckland team. You will contribute to transport planning, traffic engineering and civil design across NZ and the wider region, with opportunities to work on diverse public sector projects.

Qualifications

• 2–7 years’ experience in transport planning, traffic engineering, civil design, or a related infrastructure environment.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience working on civic or public sector transport projects.
• A flexible, proactive mindset and willingness to adapt to new challenges and opportunities.
• An interest in developing a broader understanding of transport planning, traffic engineering, and civil design.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• A commitment to continuous improvement, professional growth, and delivering quality outcomes.
• Progress toward Chartered status, or an interest in working toward it, will be viewed favourably.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to transport planning, traffic engineering, and civil design outputs for public sector and infrastructure projects.
• Support the preparation of technical documentation, analysis, drawings, and project deliverables to a high standard.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, coordinated, and high-quality solutions.
• Assist with proposals, commercial inputs, and broader consulting activities as part of your professional development.
• Apply relevant technical standards, client requirements, and quality expectations across project work.
• Build productive relationships with colleagues and contribute positively to team delivery and continuous improvement.
• Manage priorities effectively and deliver accurate work within agreed timeframes.
