Job summary

Wellington City Council is seeking a Civil/Structures Project Engineer on a fixed-term basis through to 30 September 2027 to support transport infrastructure projects in the Wellington area.

You will assess, design, develop and deliver upgrades and renewals across roads, retaining walls, bridges and tunnels, coordinating consultants and contractors and engaging with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years relevant experience in civil or structural engineering projects within New Zealand.
• Strong project and contract management experience.
• Experience working with consultants and contractors.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and organisational skills.
• A current New Zealand driver licence.
• Experience in transport infrastructure, local government or public sector environments is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and deliver civil and structural infrastructure projects from investigation through to construction.
• Manage consultants, contractors and service providers to ensure on-time, safe and within-budget delivery.
• Support design, upgrade and maintenance of key transport infrastructure assets.
• Coordinate project approvals, consents and stakeholder engagement activities.
• Provide technical engineering advice across transport infrastructure projects.
• Monitor project performance, financial progress and reporting requirements.
• Work collaboratively with internal teams, contractors, mana whenua, and the wider community.
• Contribute to emergency response activities relating to transport infrastructure assets when required.
