Central Region | Wellington office | Permanent, full-time

  • Coordinate high-quality training, courses and examinations across
    the Region

  • Strengthen capability across SLSNZ’s volunteer education network

  • Help clubs and members access the development they need

Turn national learning programmes into outstanding local delivery

Our members need accessible, well-organised training to build the capability and confidence required to keep communities safe. We’re looking for an experienced Training Delivery Lead to coordinate and deliver member training, courses, development programmes and examinations across the Central Region.

This role connects national consistency with local knowledge. You’ll work closely with clubs and SLSNZ’s volunteer education network to understand demand, maintain a visible delivery calendar, coordinate instructors and examiners, and reduce the barriers preventing members from accessing development opportunities.

About the role

Reporting to the Training Delivery Manager, you will:

  • Develop and maintain a regional training, course and examination plan aligned with national priorities.

  • Use qualification data, club insights and workforce capacity to identify demand, gaps and priority needs.

  • Coordinate a clear delivery calendar that gives clubs and members timely visibility of opportunities.

  • Deliver nationally approved training and development, including Surf Lifeguard and Patrol Support Awards, IRB Awards, First Aid, instructor and examiner development, Patrol Captain courses and Intermediate Lifeguard School.

  • Coordinate venues, equipment, instructors, examiners and participant requirements.

  • Ensure delivery is safe, inclusive and consistent with approved national resources and requirements.

  • Coordinate examinations and ensure prerequisites, learner evidence and documentation are complete.

  • Build strong relationships with club training officers, instructors, facilitators, examiners and Chief Examiners.

  • Recruit, support and develop the volunteer delivery workforce.

  • Identify access barriers and support practical solutions for smaller and remote clubs.

  • Gather feedback and use it to improve quality, consistency and the learner experience.

  • Maintain accurate schedules, learner information, workforce allocations and delivery records.

  • Contribute to national team planning, shared delivery and improvement projects.

About you

You’ll be an organised and relationship-focused delivery leader who can coordinate multiple courses, people and locations while maintaining a positive experience for learners and volunteers.

You will bring:

  • Experience in surf lifesaving education, operational training, assessment, workforce coordination or a related environment.

  • An understanding of SLSNZ learning pathways, qualifications, training and examination processes—or the ability to develop this quickly.

  • SLSNZ Surf Lifeguard Award.

  • Strong planning skills and experience coordinating multiple activities and seasonal deadlines.

  • Credibility with volunteers and experience supporting instructors, facilitators, assessors or examiners.

  • Strong relationship-management, facilitation, communication and service skills.

  • Sound judgement in learner safety, assessment integrity, risk management and escalation.

  • Confidence using learning, CRM, scheduling and Microsoft 365 systems.

  • Accurate administration, record-keeping and reporting capability.

  • A full New Zealand driver licence.

  • The flexibility to travel regularly and work some evenings and weekends during peak delivery periods.

Relevant Surf Life Saving qualifications, current sector knowledge, or an adult education or assessment credential would be highly advantageous.

Why join SLSNZ?

This is an opportunity to make learning easier to access and ensure our members receive safe, consistent and well-supported development experiences. You’ll help clubs build operational capability, develop a strong and connected volunteer education network, and contribute to a nationally aligned team committed to continuous improvement.

You’ll join a purpose-driven organisation guided by our Kawa Tātaki, Respect, Integrity, Collaboration, Wellbeing and Fun and connected through Kapa Kotahi, our commitment to working as one team.
