Qualifications

• Undergraduate qualification in medical imaging, or an approved undergraduate degree in biomedical science-related field such as anatomy or physiology, or a medical/allied health profession.
• NZ resident or citizen; eligible for MRTB registration as trainee cardiac sonographer.

Responsibilities

• Perform Transthoracic Echocardiograms (TTE) under supervision.
• Assist with Transoesophageal echo (TOE) and stress echo.
• Review and report echo images; participate in case discussions and training sessions.
• Complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Cardiac Ultrasound during the program.
• Work in Rotorua/Taupo Hospitals in year 1, with transition to Waikato Hospitals in year 2.

This unique opportunity provides training to become a cardiac sonographer in both a regional and tertiary setting. Under direct supervision of qualified Cardiac Sonographers, as a Trainee Cardiac Sonographer you will learn to perform Transthoracic Echocardiograms (TTE, echo), and to assist with Transoesophageal echo (TOE) and stress echo. Working in both outpatient and inpatient settings, ED, ICU, theatre and other diagnostic areas and some satellite clinics in outlying communities. You will work Monday to Friday 8:00 to 16:30 performing scans, reviewing and reporting the images, participate in case discussions and training sessions while also working to complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Cardiac Ultrasound.

The first year of the role will be based in Rotorua/Taupo Hospitals, transitioning to Waikato Hospitals for the second year.

You would be joining a team of 12 physiologists, physiology technicians, trainee physiologists and physiology technicians, cardiac sonographers and trainee cardiac sonographers.
